| Detailed Description: |
The Department of Anthropology at the University of San Diego announces a tenure-track position in Anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. Area of specialization is the lived experience of religion, as well as environmental anthropology. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate active engagement in broader conversations surrounding theory and method in the study of anthropology through their teaching and scholarship. Candidates with sub-specializations that engage food studies and/or animal studies, and whose scholarship foregrounds ethical and pluralistic perspectives, are especially encouraged to apply.
The position carries a 3-3 teaching load. Teaching load will include responsibilities in both Anthropology and Theology and Religious Studies as defined by an MOU delineating 4 ANTH designated and 2 THRS designated courses each year. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses as well as upper-division courses in the area(s) of specialization, and may include courses that fulfill the Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice requirement as well as other areas in our core curriculum. The candidate would be expected to teach lower division courses (such as Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Introduction to World Religions, and Exploring Religious Meaning). Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching and scholarship are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a PhD or its equivalent by the time of the appointment, September 2026. Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, an active scholarly agenda, and commitment to collaborative leadership are required.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
