Detailed Description:

This is a full-time temporary, benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.

Under the direction of the Director of Brand Marketing and Creative, the Content Marketing Manager supports the marketing of all Knauss School of Business programs, events and initiatives and helps uncover valuable opportunities for enhancing the reputation, promotion and visibility of the University of San Diego Knauss School of Business thought leadership and overall brand.  As a skilled writer, storyteller and content creator, the Manager oversees the School’s content strategy and produces a wide range of multimedia content for distribution across the School’s website, newsletters, and social media channels.  The Manager also assists with the Knauss School of Business media relations strategy by proactively identifying newsworthy stories and liaising with USD’s office of media relations and external PR partners when media requests arise. The Manager hires, trains, schedules and supervises student employees that support maintenance of the School’s CRM database, and the distribution and management of the School’s digital assets.  The Manager will need to occasionally work nights and/or weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the Knauss School of Business content strategy, website content, and write, research and edit articles for the School. 

  • Works with the Director of Brand Marketing and Creative to establish strategies for consistency of communication across the School and in alignment with the university
  • Develops, manages and maintains Knauss School of Business’ content strategy in alignment with School’s overall marketing strategy and goals
  • Actively manages and oversees the Knauss School of Business website, including:
    • Research, write and edit content for School’s website
    • Independently conduct interviews, write and edit content for School’s news center, admission blog, spotlight stories, faculty thought leadership and event postings following AP writing style guidelines and brand consistency
    • Review and approve all new and updated website content for the School including events and mypostings submissions
    • Work with all units of the Knauss School of Business in maintaining consistency and branding in all materials by reviewing and approving web pages, newsletters, emails, videos, flyers, online ads, etc.
    • Works directly with School’s website maintainers to ideate new website content and to implement new website pages and designs
    • Manages, maintains and ensures overall site integrity 
    • Maintains Knauss School of Business online directory and add new profiles
    • Liaise with web team to troubleshoot issues on Knauss School of Business website
  • Highly skilled in USD CMS system to support other units in their webpage creation ensuring the portray of information in the best and most visual manner possible
  • In charge of reviewing all printed and digital materials to ensure they follow the Knauss School of Business and USD branding guidelines and AP style

Social media and promotion of the Knauss School of Business, faculty thought leadership and its initiatives

  • Develop, manage and implement digital strategy for social media, email marketing campaigns and media relations targeting audiences including current students, alumni, donors, community supporters and other constituents
  • Create and deliver content via social media outlets (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, email, YouTube, etc.) while using judgement to maintaining a consistent brand tone and voice
  • Create and deliver email marketing content for School’s centers and departments
  • Work with Knauss School of Business directors, faculty and staff to enhance and extend the Knauss School of Business brand through all media by promoting core values and attributes through storytelling
  • Collaborate with all Knauss School of Business staff/faculty/admin to collect content for social media platforms and distribute appropriately to targeted audiences
  • Manage the creation of social media videos and live video sections
  • Manages social media student ambassadors program
  • Manage the development and implementation of Knauss School of Business monthly dean’s newsletter. Curate and compose stories targeted at multiple Knauss School of Business stakeholders including alumni, enrolled students, staff/faculty, peer institutions, etc.
  • Submit content for USD monthly internal and external newsletters including Faculty Newsnotes, Torero Weekly, Parents newsletter, President’s Postcard, etc.
  • Track social reach and reputation using Google and other analytic tools and make decisions to adjust Knauss School of Business digital strategy accordingly for further brand exposure and lead generation.
  • Track newsletter analytics such as reach, open rates, engagement, etc.
  • Write copy and work with external vendors including designers, printers, content writers and mail processing services to develop and execute content jobs, such as, flyers, HTML email, website content and landing pages for Knauss School of Business initiatives
  • Assemble and organize relevant information and contribute to drafting reports that analyze trends and traffic against benchmarks
  • Other duties as assigned

Creative Copywriting and Storytelling

    • Produces and edits stories, videos and other multimedia pieces for multiple platforms including print, electronic, social media and broadcast to increase awareness of the Knauss School of Business’ mission, faculty thought leadership, and illustrate the case for philanthropic support of the School and its programs, initiatives and priorities
    • With strategies developed by the Director of Brand Marketing and Creative and the Assistant Dean of Marketing and Recruitment, promotes faculty research, student success, special achievements, select events and video press releases
    • Generates original copy ideas that speak to various target audiences
    • Develops a variety of creative content for flyers, brochures, webpages in collaboration with external partners and other members of the marketing team

Communications and Media Relations

  • Serves as liaison to University Communications for the purpose of enhancing the School’s reputation, creating greater visibility and promotion of its faculty, student and alumni achievements, and special events through internal (e.g. USD Magazine) and external outlets (local, national and international publications).
  • Collaborates with external PR agency and USD media relations team in writing and distributing news releases, public service announcements, and media alerts for print, broadcast, and electronic media
  • Writes contributing articles for the Knauss School of Business and USD news sites in collaboration with the marcom team
  • Creates a strategy and a streamlined process to develop, write and place OpEd’s from School’s thought leaders
  • Proactively pitch news and feature story ideas to the USD media team and develop long-term projects to promote key people, programs, and initiatives within areas of responsibility
  • Work to increase the visibility of the School’s faculty, and key administrators as spokespersons in their respective areas of expertise
  • Keep track of editorial calendars as well as measurement and analytics to show effectiveness of media relations outreach
  • Develops and implements rankings communications strategies including drafting press release, email announcement, story for School’s news center and distribution strategy 

Other

  • Hire, train and supervise student employees that support maintenance of CRM database, content creation, social media tactics, video creation and general office tasks including department’s expense report, maintaining inventory of collateral and equipment, digital assets, and more.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 3 years of related experience in marketing including social media, content creation through storytelling, email marketing and/or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3+ years of direct marketing experience related to product marketing, campaign planning, digital marketing, messaging, positioning, and/or copywriting

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills on the phone and in person. Strong command of the English language including grammar, spelling, punctuation, formats, proofreading, and syntax
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education.
  • Knowledge of the Federal Work Study program including employment, budget and evaluation.
  • Experience using or managing CRM databases including, but not limited to, data entry, email marketing, creating query parameters, producing reports, mail merges.
  • Experience using CMS systems and developing content for web.
  • AP style expertise.
  • Performing in a changing technological environment and being able to learn quickly and adapt and reinvent procedures according to change.
  • Demonstrated experience in the professional use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and the internet.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Adobe Cloud (Photoshop, Publisher, InDesign) or related design software, Cascade Server or other web content software.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing complex projects.
  • Highly organized, motivated and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to prioritize competing projects under pressure to meet multiple deadlines.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.

Additional Details:

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. In addition, the Knauss School of Business offers two different compressed work schedule options following a 9/75 structure in which employees have 1 to 1.5 days off over every two-week period as well as a hybrid option for those positions that can complete some work remotely.
