Job Qualifications
  • At least Sophomore by hours (upper-level or grad student preferred)
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required
  • Competency in academic skills is required (must pass the training)
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are essential
Position Description/ Job Duties Basic Responsibilities

a. Conduct weekly academic coaching sessions throughout the semester
implementing academic strategies that are geared towards the student’s preferred
method(s) of learning and are related to their academic challenges.
i. Discuss and provide various ways to improve your student’s academic
progress
ii. Prove and strengthen competency in providing academic assistance
iii. Adhere to policy or procedures
iv. Report any problems or potential problems to the Graduate Intern for
Academic Coaching or Supplemental Instruction Coordinator Academic
Support Specialist

b. Participate in a bi-weekly group meeting with the Graduate Intern for Academic
Coaching and all Academic Coaches for debriefing and support.
i. Discuss ongoing appointments
ii. Share and receive up to date academic coaching strategies
c. Maintain a professional manner at all times

Essential Duties

a. Provide academic support to students
b. Discuss their study habits and provide a plan to either improve their current study
habits or encourage them to implement new strategies.
c. Coordinate with other departments when needed
i. SOAR: Reach out to SOAR if the student discloses they are depressed,
have anxiety, are having issues communicating with their professor, or are
having any other issues that are of concern to you.
ii. Tutoring: If they are struggling with a specific course, redirect them to
tutoring. Assist them in filling out the form.

Maintenance Activities

a. Complete and collect all documentation promptly
i. Fill out Intake Form in the first session
ii. Complete a Case Note after each session
iii. Send the Survey and Acknowledgement Form after the last session
b. Attend an Academic Coaching training. Must pass training in order to begin
coaching.
c. Coordinate weekly meetings with students.
i. It is your decision if you want to meet virtually or in person. If you have
no preference, ask the student what they would be more comfortable with.
d. Maintain confidentiality and never disclose student information to your peers.
e. Maintain professional behavior and professional boundaries with all students,
staff, and faculty.
f. Promptly report any concerns to Graduate Intern for Academic Coaching or
Academic Support Director (e.g. Title IX, misconduct issues, or inappropriate behavior).
Preferred Availability
  • Hours are flexible and will vary weekly
  • Weekday and Weekend options available
  • Limited to 20 hours per week
