Basic Responsibilities

The Marketing Copywriter supports the university’s marketing and communications efforts by creating compelling and strategic written content for print and digital platforms. This role ensures that all content aligns with ACU’s brand voice and supports goals related to enrollment, engagement, and institutional storytelling. 

The ideal candidate plays a key role in developing content that drives student interest, applications, visits, and deposits in alignment with enrollment objectives. They are a strong communicator who collaborates with designers, strategists, and campus partners to produce high-impact content across digital and print campaigns. A deep understanding of ACU’s mission, an ability to write for various print and digital platforms, an ability to write for various target audiences, and a commitment to storytelling excellence are essential. 

The Marketing Copywriter works closely with designers and creative leads to shape campaigns that are both visually and verbally compelling while ensuring consistency and resonance across all channels. They contribute to messaging direction, support campaign ideation, and help unify content efforts across teams. 

Each of the following represents a core function that comprises approximately 20% or more of the job: 

A. Create and manage written content for university marketing initiatives

B. Collaborate with campus partners and internal marketing team members

C. Maintain and rotate homepage content on acu.edu 

D. Support editorial and special institutional campaigns

Essential Duties

A. Create and manage written content for university marketing initiatives 

● Contribute to content strategy by identifying storytelling opportunities that advance ACU’s strategic marketing priorities, especially around recruitment and institutional reputation. 

● Support the enrollment marketing team in creating segmented, persuasive messaging for prospective students and families. 

● Write and edit content for emerging and immersive digital platforms, including but not limited to: social media video, influencer campaigns, and interactive virtual visit content, with fluency in adapting voice and tone. 

● Write and edit content for a range of print and digital platforms in a way that reinforces brand voice and drives engagement 

● Use university SEO strategy to optimize content for digital performance ● Ensure tone, grammar, branding, and accessibility standards are consistently met 

 

B. Collaborate with campus partners and internal marketing team members 

● Serve as a thought partner in shaping campaign messaging and positioning alongside strategists and creative leads. 

● Meet regularly with the University Marketing team and key stakeholders to assess and plan content needs 

● Conduct interviews or coordinate with departments to gather story insights aligned with institutional goals 

● Actively contribute to brainstorming and planning sessions for campaigns ● Work closely with designers and creative leads to ensure alignment of visual and verbal storytelling. 

 

C. Maintain and rotate homepage content on acu.edu 

● Keep homepage hero stories fresh and updated, coordinating approval with supervisor ● Edit and update web content across key areas as assigned 

● Ensure consistency with CMS formatting and brand voice 

 

D. Support editorial and special institutional campaigns 

● Assist with the proofreading and editing of ACU Today magazine (biannually) ● Provide writing and editorial support for university-wide initiatives, such as enrollment campaigns or academic program highlights 

● Collaborate on one-off editorial projects or seasonal campaigns as needed

 

Professional Development Requirements

Skills 

● Strong grasp of digital user behavior and how to write content that drives action across the funnel 

● Strong creative judgment and ability to contribute to campaign concepts ● Ability to synthesize input across teams and guide messaging direction while upholding brand guidelines 

● Excellent written communication and editing skills across multiple platforms and formats ● Proficiency in writing for web and understanding of SEO principles 

● Ability to adapt tone and message for diverse audiences (prospective students, parents, donors, internal audiences) 

● Experience with or ability to learn WordPress or other CMS tools 

● Strong interviewing skills to develop compelling stories from source materials or conversations 

● Demonstrated ability to connect audience insights with storytelling strategy to achieve marketing objectives. 

Training Required 

● ACU brand voice and editorial guidelines 

● CMS training - Wordpress 

● Accessibility and SEO best practices for digital content 

 

Qualifications

Professional 

● Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field (required) 

● 2–4 years of professional writing experience in a marketing or editorial environment (required) 

● Experience conceptualizing or pitching editorial content ideas (preferred) ● Experience in higher education or nonprofit communications (preferred) 

Personal

● Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and the ability to bring fresh narrative ideas to the table 

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

● Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities 

● Collaborative mindset and ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams 

Physical Demands ● Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
● Occasional travel or in-person meetings on campus may be required
