Basic Responsibilities

A. Develop, maintain, and integrate software used by the university. 

B. Administer and support software applications used by the university. 

C. Provide customer support.

Essential Duties

A. Develop, maintain, and integrate software used by the university. 

  1. Writing and maintaining software to meet program specifications.

  2. Developing integrations and modifying third-party software with the ACU environment.

  3. Adapting and enhancing software to accommodate ACU’s technical infrastructure and standards.

  4. Testing new software and changes to existing software to ensure applications meet ACU’s quality standards and conform to industry practices.

  5. Documenting software systems, including program development and revisions in a source code repository.

B. Administer and support software applications used by the university. 

  1. Installing new software and required upgrades.
  2. Testing new software and changes to existing software to ensure applications meet ACU’s quality standards and conform to industry practices. 
  3. Documenting software systems.
  4. Participating in teams to maximize the use of software applications on campus. 

C. Provide Customer Support 

  1. Supporting business areas in their use of software applications.
  2. Analyzing business requirements and recommending software to fill business needs.
  3. Researching and responding to questions and problems related to software systems.
  4. Documenting issues identified in software systems.
  5. Creating a path to resolution for issues identified in software systems. 
Professional Development Requirements

Skills

  1. Strong oral and written communication skills.

  2. Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

  3. Knowledge of client and server operating systems like Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

  4. Familiarity with web and application server setup and administration

  5. Ability to analyze and resolve difficult technology problems.

  6. Ability to extract and utilize complex information from technical documentation.

  7. Programming experience in languages such as Java or Python.

  8. Experience with relational SQL databases.

  9. Familiarity with development methodologies such as Agile, Kanban, and Waterfall.

  10. Basic understanding of a RESTful API.

  11. Familiarity with code management tools such as Git.

  12. An understanding of usability and accessibility issues.

  13. Ability to learn and keep current with information technology and its application to Higher Education.  This includes participating in conferences and training classes on Higher Education application software or computing systems.

  1. Software development seminars or training.

  2. Application software training.

  3. Operating systems training.

  4. Database Management Systems training or courses.

  5. Interpersonal and communication classes and workshops.

  6. Time and multiple priorities management workshops.

Qualifications

Professional

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Experience in programming, database management, and systems support.

  3. Proven ability to support, maintain, and troubleshoot business applications.

  4. Proficiency in at least one programming language and familiarity with SQL or other database tools.

  5. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills in a collaborative environment.

  3. Works well independently and in teams, including leadership roles

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Physical Demands

A. Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time. 

B. Must be able to work extended hours as the need arises. This includes on-call rotation and performing software maintenance and updates outside of working hours.
