Job Summary:

The Specialist for the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research will be responsible for identifying open grant opportunities, collaborating with faculty and staff to draft and submit grant applications with budgets that comply with institutional policies and funder regulations, identifying and addressing any potential compliance issues during the application process, and collaborating with post-award staff to ensure effective implementation and reporting. Additionally, the Specialist is responsible for identifying and initiating process improvements for the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research, sometimes acting as the director in the director’s absence, and training other positions in the office.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 - 3 years of related experience

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with grant and proposal development research and writing operations to develop effective grant
    submissions and obtain funding for the organization.
  • Creates grant budgets.
  • Improves processes and identifies efficiencies to streamline the grant submission process.
  • Communicating with internal and external constituencies related to proposal & budget development. Supports grant writers in understanding the complex proposal
    requirements from governmental agencies and institutions.
  • Monitoring progress and generating reports on pre-award grant activity. Performs quality reviews, proofreading, and validation of proposals for completeness and compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in technical writing, proposal development, project management, or budget development.

    • Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist University.
  • 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
  • Tuition Benefits:
    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • University pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the University.

The Office of Sponsored Programs provides assistance to full-time faculty and academic administrators interested in securing grant awards for research, curriculum development, and other creative activities relevant to the College's academic mission. Office staff assist faculty members and academic staff in answering your questions about grants, locating funding sources, obtaining and interpreting application forms, developing proposal narratives and budgets, and securing institutional support and approvals.
