Responsibilities:

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of office protocols
  • Remain working in the office for the entirety of their shift
  • Answer the office phone in a respectful and professional manner, and direct calls to administrators or the proper place for all inquiries. The phone is not to be used for personal calls
  • Record messages accurately if the staff member of whom the caller is trying to reach is unavailable. Record the message and how the caller would like to be contacted by the staff member when they return
  • Filing conduct reports and other documents
  • Attend mandatory bimonthly staff meetings
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned

Interpersonal

  • Maintain full, proactive communication with their supervisor or other designated staff members in all matters pertaining to various individual and group concerns and dialogues of interest
  • Make referrals, via the supervisor or designated staff member, to the appropriate university agency when concerns are beyond their level of authority, or they are directed to do so by a university official
  • Listen to others with an attitude of respect, support, and concern
  • Work in a collaborative manner with university staff, including all member of the division of Student Affairs

Customer Service

  • Serve as a source of information about the university and its various services. This includes informing students, parents, and others through word of mouth, answering questions over the phone, and in the office
  • Maintain an environment where students respect each other’s rights and differences
  • Encourage students to respect the campus and the Student Code of Conduct
  • Assist in programming held by the Office of Student Affairs
Qualifications:
  • Full-time undergraduate student with at least 30 credits (sophomore status)
  • The ideal Student Assistant candidate will demonstrate the following leadership characteristics:

    • Approachability and availability
    • Role model – a person whose positive behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, as stipulated by the standards set forth in the Quinnipiac University Student Handbook
    • Conflict resolution and problem solving
    • Administrative and organizational skills
    • Positive representative of Quinnipiac University and the Office of Student Affairs
  • Serve as a student leader and responsible community member who is capable of sound judgment and good decision-making at all times
  • Care for others
  • Care for oneself
  • Communicate with and engage others
  • Attend and participate in training and orientation programs, in-service trainings, and staff meetings. Staff meetings are scheduled in advance by the supervisor
Hours of Position:
  • Up tp 10hrs per week
