Overview:

Quinnipiac University seeks highly qualified applicants who are committed to excellence in teaching for part-time faculty opportunities in the Department of Biomedical Sciences within the School of Health Sciences. The department values collegiality, communication, and promoting an inclusive learning environment for students. Teaching in the department serves undergraduate and graduate Biomedical Sciences students, and undergraduate Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Health Sciences, Biology, and School of Nursing students.

The position(s) are for on-ground microbiology laboratory course offerings. Applicants with experience in basic microbiological techniques and previous teaching experience in a laboratory setting are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach laboratory courses in microbiology for nursing, allied health, and biomedical/biological science majors.
  • Perform and demonstrate basic microbiological techniques including Gram-staining, microscopy, pure culture isolation, antimicrobial sensitivity assays, and biochemical testing.
  • Teach the pre-planned laboratory course, ensuring consistency across sections, while creating and grading written assessments and exams for each section
  • Meet and conduct laboratory classes as regularly scheduled.
  • Hold weekly office hours, defined as time set aside for interaction with students outside of class to promote students’ academic achievement and provide academic guidance.
  • Prepare and distribute to students a clear and concise plan for learning within the first week of classes, filing this syllabus with the faculty member’s department chair and school/college office.
  • Work closely with the laboratory coordinator, and coordinate with the department chair and program director.
Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Microbiology/Biology or a related field.

Qualifications:

  • Availability to teach during a Tuesday/Thursday time slot.
  • Previous teaching experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience with Blackboard or similar Learning Management System (LMS) preferred.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive learning environment.
  • Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
