Overview:

The Frank H. Netter MD, School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Medical Sciences, specializing in Behavioral Health and Social Sciences (BASS). The position is offered at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. QU Netter has a strong focus on teaching excellence and utilization of innovative pedagogy. This faculty member will play an integral role in curriculum development and instruction, with a primary focus on integrating Behavioral Health and Social Sciences content into the Foundations of Medicine course. The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative academic environment that values student engagement, inclusive teaching practices, and curricular innovation. They will support the school’s mission by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop instructional materials and by fostering student learning across the pre-clinical curriculum.

Successful candidates will have experience with curriculum development and teaching in Behavioral Health and Social Sciences. In addition to responsibility for the BASS curriculum, candidates will be expected to teach broadly across the pre-clinical curriculum with a primary focus on the content in the Foundations of Medicine course and contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University graduated its inaugural class of medical students in May 2017. The school was founded with the aim of educating diverse, patient-centered physicians who are partners and leaders in an interprofessional primary-care workforce. Responsibilities:

• Medical student teaching in behavioral and social sciences using a variety of instructional methods including lecture, problem-based learning, team-based learning, case-based learning, and online platforms.
• Curriculum development and teaching in Behavioral Health and Social Sciences with the goal of facilitating the application of concepts to clinical learning.
• General teaching in the Foundations of Medicine course (e.g. facilitate problem-based learning small groups).
• Collaboration with medical educators from a variety of basic science and clinical disciplines to develop curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments for the pre-clerkship curriculum.
• For teaching sessions created by the candidate, create teaching guides and lead faculty development to train small group facilitators to effectively teach content and utilize the instructional methods selected.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching an ongoing professional development.
• Contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
• Advise and mentor medical students on academic progress, capstone projects, and career planning.
• Participate in scholarly activity, serve on departmental and institutional committees, and contribute to other duties as assigned or negotiated.
• Clinician candidates may also be engaged in instruction in the clinical curriculum.

Education Requirements:

  • Qualifications for this position include a MD, DO, or PhD degree. MD preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Current rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
    Experience in teaching, curriculum development, scholarship, and/or clinical practice of behavioral and social sciences is highly desirable
     An established record of, or evidence of a strong potential for, effective teaching
     A commitment to work productively with a team of medical educators from other basic and clinical science disciplines
     Evidence for potential of productive scholarly and creative activity is also desired
  • Commitment to contribute to inclusive excellence in the academic community
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.

Faculty positions at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine are non-tenure track term appointments, initial appointments are for a three-year term.
