Job Summary:

This position requires a thorough understanding of the policies and procedures of pharmaceutical manufacturer's programs which provide medication(s) to uninsured, under-insured and/or indigent patients. The Pharmacy Patient Advocate must monitor compliance with hospital policies, as well as pharmaceutical manufacturer policies and maintain a medication assistance use program database to assure the cost benefit of the program. Must coordinate medication assistance program activities with hospital and clinics, including regular meetings/discussion with treatment teams. Must communicate and meet regularly with patients, insurance plans, and treatment teams and document accordingly across multiple software programs. Assure proper assessment of financial status, assure indigent medication program procedures are consistent with hospital policies. This position is the liaison to fiscal affairs on issues related to medication indigent care service. Provide data on cost/benefits of program through monthly reports provided to pharmacy administration in format that can be shared with fiscal affairs and hospital administration. Serve as point person about the program for clinicians, pharmacists, social workers, case managers, patients, manufacturers, and fiscal affairs personnel. Work location may vary to any Upstate pharmacy location within Onondaga County based on operational need.

Minimum Qualifications:

Five (5) years of medical or pharmacy related experience required. Will also consider candidates with an Associates Degree in a science or health related field and three (3) years of medical or pharmacy related experience OR Bachelors Degree in a science or health related field and one (1) year of medical or pharmacy related experience. Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution, and computer skills required. Ability to work independently. 

Preferred Qualifications:

National Pharmacy Technician Certification; NYS Licensed LPN; and/or Medical Assistant Certification preferred. Experience with coordinating large projects preferred. Experience and knowledge of various types of insurances and their allowable benefits, drug coverage and regulations preferred, understanding of pharmacy billing.

Work Days:

Rotating schedule between 8am-9pm. Weekends and holidays based on operational need.
