Job Summary:

Upstate Cancer Center (UCC) of the SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a motivated Medical Physicist to join our exciting and growing ACR accredited Radiation Oncology Department. This position is clinically focused with responsibilities including clinical physics services for external beam radiation therapy that includes IMRT, VMAT, TBI, TSEI, IGRT, RGSC, SBRT, as well as SRS with Gamma Knife and brachytherapy programs to assure the safe, effective, and accurate delivery of radiation therapy. The individual is also expected to be involved in some research and educational services in support of the institutional mission. This position is flexible, and an experienced senior physicist may be considered for this position.

About the Department:

Currently, the Radiation Oncology team at UCC consists of 10 physicians, 6 physicists (4 PhD), 6 medical residents, 6 dosimetrists, and 22 therapists providing services to 4 facilities, including the main campus in downtown Syracuse. We treat approximately 125 patients per day. Major treatment equipment includes 5 Linacs (including 4 TrueBeam), 2 big bore CT-Simulators, one Xoft IORT, one HDR Brachytherapy Unit (Varian Bravos), LDR Brachytherapy program (prostate seed implantation and GammaTile), one Gamma Knife, and in the process of acquiring an MRI simulator or MR-Linac. The UCC is an active member of the RTOG/NRG and participates in various cooperative groups for clinical trials.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Physics, New York State license (or eligible) in Therapeutic Radiological Medical Physics and experience in Radiation Oncology Physics required. Certification by the American Board of Radiology in therapeutic Radiological Physics required. If not certified must achieve certification within four years of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

Radiation Oncology IT systems experience preferred.

Work Days:

M-F 8a-4:30p some weekend and evening work
