Job Summary:
The primary duties of the Release of Information Specialist include screening medical record requests and authorizations to assure they meet all legal & regulatory requirements, per designated release type; completing release of information requests electronically, including generating letters & invoices, as necessary; logging release of information as required by HIPAA; invoicing for billable requests per procedure; communicating with practitioners to obtain requested information (i.e. Physical Therapy, Physicians, Case Management); preparing and certifying medical record subpoenas for court; and other duties as deemed appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in Health Information Technology and RHIT or eligible required. Must be able to work independently and have the ability to prioritize work. Excellent verbal/written communication, analytical, and computer skills required. *RHIT eligible candidates must obtain RHIT within one year of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
RHIT with one year of medical records experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Work Days:
Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm. Some holidays; no weekends
