Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for participating in general accounting activities of the Upstate Foundation and reports directly to the Financial Manager. The accountant will be required to make many analytic decisions, will provide customer service to internal and external constituents in all areas of financial services for the Foundation and communicate with many different Upstate staff members at different levels of responsibility. The accountant must be familiar with bank reconciliations, 1099s, purchase requisitions, accounts payable, general ledger journal entries, and other tasks. Experience in non-profit and/or fund accounting is a plus.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Code payables for input into the accounting system.
- Review weekly accounts payable disbursements report for accuracy.
- Facilitate/Liaise reimbursement-type grants.
- Fund Management oversight and reporting process.
- Lead Golisano Children’s Hospital budget and revenue reporting process.
- Lead the financial aspects of the allocation process for multiple annual campaigns.
- Participate in the month-end close process, perform monthly general ledger reconciliations and annual 1099 reporting.
- Prepare Donor Advised Funds statements.
- Review Quarterly Fund Reports generated by Operations.
- Participate in Endowment Spending process.
- Assist Financial Manager with Alumni organizations reporting.
- Participate in and provide support during the annual audit.
- Assist with statistical reporting.
- Provide backup for the Financial Manager and Accounts Payable Clerk as needed.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with 1-2 years of accounting or booking experience OR Associate Degree in Accounting or Finance related with 3-4 years experience.
Must be skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Strong communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in all aspects of accounting, including accounts payable and general ledger.
Experience using accounting software.
Work Days:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:00
