Job/Department Summary:

Under general direction of the Director of Student Life and Leadership (SLL), the incumbent performs highly complex professional Student Services work in reviewing the most difficult individual, group or organizational problems, developing and recommending courses of action, and implementing proposed solutions. The incumbent will utilize a combination of high-level analytical skills and high-level interpersonal skills in working on complex problems from the investigation and analysis stage through the solution and implementation stage, taking the lead in the advising and coordination of 150 or more recognized University Student Organizations, and Student Life and Leadership (SLL) leadership programs including highly complex and sensitive issues as they arise; represents SLL and coordinates with various Orientation and yield events, including coordination of equipment, facilities, outdoor spaces, materials, etc., assuring events are conducted in compliance with time, place, manner, and freedom of speech concerns on campus; conducts workshops, provides guidance and training to leadership of University recognized student organizations and their professional staff and faculty advisors; provides supervision and work direction to professional and student staff as assigned; reviews issues related to organizational violation of campus policies, and conducts evaluation and provides recommendation for individual or club discipline; and completes special projects, as assigned. Incumbent will be responsible for ensuring compliance of policies, procedures, laws, and executive memorandums pursuant to the support of student organizations, and Time, Place and Manner of Expression, and is often relied upon to provide insight, direction, and recommend solutions to sensitive and potentially confrontational issues. Serves as a campus first-responder to commercial, political or religious free speech issues or related campus safety or disruption issues.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual
  • Master’s degree in a job-related field.
  • Direct experience in student organization advising/management.
  • Two years experience managing large-scale public, non-profit or sponsored events.

Required Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.

A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job‑related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.

Time Base: Full-time- 1.0

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm. 

Salary and Benefits Information:

$5,351 - $7,633 per month / $64,212 - $91,596 annually (New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning of the salary range)

Additional Information:

California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and/or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, this is a "designated position" under the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. (Group/Category: Procurement Card Holder, 2) Note this designation is applicable only if Procurement Card is issued.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act and is required to comply with the requirements of this designation. Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.
