Job/Department Summary:

Working independently, under general direction of the Director of Energy and Sustainability, the Energy and Sustainability Analyst (Analyst) is responsible for the analysis, development, and evaluation of complex energy, climate, and sustainability programs with broad impact on Facilities Management Services (FMS) and the University. Incumbent works in the Office of Energy and Sustainability within FMS to help lead the campus towards its climate and sustainability goals, promote and educate about sustainable practices, and ensure that campus complies with federal , state, and Chancellor’s Office mandates and laws. FMS is a large and complex unit at CSU, Chico within the Business and Finance Division (BFD) that employs approximately 155 people for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities and grounds.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, working with the Director of Energy and Sustainability (Director) to develop sustainability, energy and climate action strategies and lead project implementation. The Analyst leads the analysis, evaluation, and communication of data in support of sustainability and climate commitments, optimizing our energy and resource use, such as electricity, natural gas, water, carbon, and waste, and decreasing utility costs. This includes tracking progress and reporting on greenhouse gas tracking, waste reduction mandates, water conservation, energy efficiency, and other benchmarks/ initiatives. The Analyst works as part of a team to evaluate, recommend, and manage various modernization, energy efficiency, and sustainability strategies. The incumbent also administers bill paying, recharge billing, reporting, and regulatory compliance requirements in a timely manner. The incumbent supports sustainability efforts as needed, including campus ratings (e.g. AASHE STARS report), certifications, and events.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Biology, Environmental Studies, Business, or related field
  • Three or more years of experience working in an Analyst position, preferably energy and/ or sustainability Analyst
  • Passion and commitment for sustainability and climate action
  • Working knowledge of sustainability certification programs and rating systems related to facilities operations and development including but not limited to: USGBC LEED, AASHE STARS, and Second Nature.
  • Advanced math and Excel skills including ability to analyze large data sets, preferably using filters, pivots, or similar database tools
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing and approving utility invoices
  • Training or demonstrated awareness about equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Required Education and Experience:

The general knowledge, skills and abilities in the Energy and Sustainability with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods, and the qualifications listed above are required. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and three years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative
policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Time Base: Full-time- 1.0

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm.

Salary and Benefits Information:

$5,022 - $9,083 per month / $60,264 - $108,996 annually (Initial placement within the salary range for new employees is contingent upon education and experience).
