RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Provides leadership for innovative library and academic resource services to support curriculum, instruction, and student success.
- Supports the LLR as a dynamic, supportive hub for all facets of the academic success where students can explore, create, and collaborate.
- Supports and sustains student success by advancing a welcoming, service-oriented environment, and maintaining innovative, forward-looking library learning spaces, collections, and services that advance teaching, learning, research, and creative activity.
- Advocates for equity, multicultural education, and social justice in staffing, curriculum, and services.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure resources foster student engagement in academic and cocurricular activities.
- Oversees strategic initiatives like OpenCI and supports affordable instructional materials and accessible technology.
- Manages staff recruitment, development, and evaluation, while ensuring alignment with Academic Affairs' strategic goals.
- Advocates for information literacy as well as writing and multiliteracies, fosters community relations, and promotes innovative pedagogical initiatives, including exploration of learning technologies and artificial intelligence.
- Manages fiscal planning, facilities coordination, and strategic development in partnership with university stakeholders.
- Supports technology integration in teaching, research, and curricular innovation, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Articulates and guides the strategic contributions of the Library, Centers, and programs in supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and scholarship at CSUCI;
- Fosters and promotes good relations and cooperative ventures between the university and community and with other libraries, both public and private;
- Maintains appropriate documentation, and coordinates assessment and reporting of operations;
- Fosters work-life balance and workload management for employees under their direction;
- Serves on University and CSU-wide committees as elected or appointed.
Takes an active role in helping to embed the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of University work, in every division, and participates at least once annually in professional and/or leadership development opportunities that will contribute to campus efforts to advance racial and social justice in and through education at CSUCI and beyond.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Education: American Library Association accredited master’s degree.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A sustained record of professional and scholarly activity to qualify for appointment at the tenured full Librarian level;
- Minimum of five years of demonstrated management and leadership experience in a collective-bargaining environment including budget administration, personnel management, and faculty retention, tenure and promotion review.
- Experience in, or demonstrated commitment to, advancing diverse populations;
- Strong evidence of a service orientation, superior communication skills, and a collegial leadership style;
- Proven ability to work with professional integrity, and a commitment to building strong relationships that respect diversity of identity, background, and perspectives;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven ability to effectively manage organizational change for improving efficiencies and services;
- Evidence of innovative initiatives to improve library services, collections, facilities, culture, etc. in support of research and learning;
- Robust commitment to information literacy, and writing and multiliteracy skills;
- Ability to cultivate an organizational climate based upon respect, service, open communication and teamwork;
- Teaching experience in a higher education setting;
- Experience in leading successful assessment/results-oriented planning initiatives;
- Demonstrated internal team-building and mentoring experience;
- An earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution;
- Proven ability to support faculty research in a research-practitioner environment;
- Fluency in English and another language, e.g. Spanish, Tagalog;
- A commitment to recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and actively engaging with underrepresented and underserved populations both on campus and in the broader community.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. The person holding this position is considered a ‘Campus Security Authority (CSA)’ to report crimes for the federally mandated Clery Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1107 revised March 24, 2017, as a condition of employment.
Hiring Range: $14,000 - $15,500 per month. Salary based on experience and education.
