Mathematics Department Office Student Assistant 

Salary

Classification Range $16.00 - $24.00 per hour

Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $16.20

Work Schedule

Up to 20 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm), as needed, and depending on availability. Minimum of 2-3 days per week for a minimum of 4 hours per day preferred. Willing to hire up to two positions to replace former SAs.

Job Summary

Will work under supervision of office staff. 

  • Receptionist and customer service duties.  Provides main reception for the department and responds to queries from students, faculty and the general public via phone calls, email correspondence, and face to face customer service.  Will provide general assistance to faculty as needed.  Provide detailed information regarding department and university policies.
  • Assist with departmental events, including seminars, colloquia, and receptions; set up and clean up hospitality, including washing dishes.
  • Responsible for typing instructional material and other material as needed; Assisting faculty with copying materials as well as general Xerox maintenance.
  • Assist with maintenance of departmental files and records, including data entry and scanning for electronic archiving; general clerical duties.
  • Assist with semester scheduling duties, including data entry into FileMaker Pro database; maintaining department owned room calendars, and posting room change signs.
  • Assist with supply room and office equipment maintenance; track office supply inventory and determine what items need to be reordered.
  • Other duties as assigned, including errands on campus, office and classroom cleaning, mail distribution, mass mailings, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.  
Required Qualifications  
  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 
  • Experience working in an office environment.
  • Strong typing skills.  Experience with Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook.  Aptitude for data entry software. 
  • Ability to identify and solve standard problems; ability to learn and clearly communicate university and departmental policies.
  • Ability to take ownership for tasks and follow through on complex tasks with deadlines.  Strong sense of responsibility and acute attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work both independently, and also as a team player.  Willing attitude for all types of tasks.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
