About the Position: 

The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs plans and manages all academic and instructional resources that support the teaching, scholarship, and research mission of Cal State Fullerton. The office strives to serve as a central resource for the campus community, ensuring quality academic programming and fostering partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders to promote and support faculty and student success. The Office of the Provost achieves this by empowering faculty, staff, administrators, and students with the knowledge and support necessary so that we can each carry out our individual roles in fulfilling our university’s mission. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Provost/Vice President Academic Affairs Operations as the Human Resources and Special Projects Manager (Administrator I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the Chief of Operations (COO), the Human Resources and Special Projects Manager is the co-liaison with Human Resources, Diversity, and Inclusion (HRDI) on all Human Resources-related matters, including faculty concerns. In partnership and collaboration with the Chief of Operations and Academic Human Resources, the Human Resources and Special Projects Manager provides leadership, guidance, planning, and implementation of practices and initiatives that foster inclusive excellence and equitable outcomes for faculty regarding recruitment and retention strategies. The Human Resources and Special Projects Manager provides guidance and support to managers and staff on recruitments, classification and compensation requests, performance evaluations, and labor relations issues. Serves as project manager or lead on a variety of executive-level projects to coordinate tasks, monitor progress and resources, address and resolve issues to ensure deadlines are met, and provide status while exercising significant judgment and decision-making with the implementation of a wide variety of complex projects and sensitive administrative duties. Reviews and analyzes problems or concerns within the division. Serves as supervisor and manages staff, student assistants, and any temporary personnel in the Provost’s Office Administration Unit. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Human Resources. Previous higher education management experience in a large educational environment. Prior experience working in a Provost's Office. Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment with a thorough knowledge of professional administrative procedures involving in-depth problem-solving techniques. The complexity and scope of the position require the incumbent to possess strong judgment, attention to detail, political acumen, work ethics, and commitment. Ability to develop and recommend policies and procedures where precedence does not exist. Ability to establish methods and systems to meet goals, assess the impact on programs and identify the need for program changes. General knowledge of higher education issues and familiarity with a university campus environment. Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as interpersonal skills.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.
