About the Position:
The Division of Administration and Finance serves as the backbone of the CSUF campus, managing a wide array of operations from maintaining and enhancing university buildings and grounds to providing important business support services. Campus beautification, classroom improvements, and technological advancements, continue to be a priority as we enhance the learning environment and facilities. It is the mission of the Division to provide customer-focused administrative support and steward our physical and financial resources to fulfill the university’s mission and support student success. Partnership with our diverse campus community and its many stakeholders are important in helping our operations provide excellent customer service and results. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director, Accounting Services and Financial Reporting (Administrator II). Accounting Services and Financial Reporting (ASFR) prepares financial statements for the University and is responsible for various financial reporting to the State Controller's Office, California State University (CSU) Office of the Chancellor, and other outside entities. ASFR also facilitates various external audits that includes, but is not limited to, single audit, financial statements audit, etc. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director of Accounting Services and Financial Reporting. Reporting to the Director of Accounting Services and Financial Reporting (ASFR), the Associate Director assists the Director in managing, coordinating and overseeing the daily operations of the department to ensure operations are carried out in accordance with established policies and procedures based on organizational goals, university mission and policies, and generally accepted accounting standards. Manages year-end processes for the annual GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) close, as well as other complex financial accounting areas. Ensures compliance with and reviews CSU and University policies regarding fiscal services. Develops and maintains the integrity of the financial reporting process and financial controls. Researches and resolves complex accounting issues including evaluation and implementation of new accounting Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements to ensure compliance with GAAP. Serves as the subject matter expert for the Common Financial System (CFS) for GAAP financial reporting activities. Communicates with campus constituents as well as external parties regarding complex and technical financial accounting matters.
Represents the ASFR Team in campus events and provides excellent customer service to support the needs of the campus community. As a member of the ASFR Team, the Associate Director supports efforts in promoting an inclusive environment of teamwork and will contribute towards ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated in department operations, programs, and services. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
|
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting or a closely related field and over seven years of progressively responsible Financial Reporting experience including five years in a supervisory/management capacity. Must have a comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements and pronouncements. Demonstrated ability in preparing financial statements and footnote disclosures in accordance with GAAP and an ability to work with both internal and external auditors. Possesses knowledge of and ability to understand and apply applicable rules and regulations. Provides, successfully develops, and implements effective and efficient processes, procedure, and solutions. Demonstrated experience researching and resolving discrepancies. Possesses a high level of problem-solving skills to evaluate complex accounting problems. Demonstrates an ability to analyze financial and statistical data and draw sound conclusions. Demonstrates an ability to complete complex assignments with the established timelines and with a high degree of accuracy. Detail oriented and possess the following skills: ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through on all assignments, demonstrated ability to work with diverse employers and students, able to use standard office software, including spreadsheet and database applications and ability to generate analytical reports. Creativity in generating solutions in a fast-paced global environment.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
|
CSU, higher education or public agency experience. Master’s degree in accounting or closely related field. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP requirements. Technical abilities to effectively use an integrated ERP Finance system such as PeopleSoft. Familiarity with PeopleSoft modules (General ledger, Asset Management, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing) and data warehouse. Re-engineering experience and abilities. Technical abilities to establish metrics for operational unit and programs that measure effectiveness of contributions to achieve department goals. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred but not required.
