About the office of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation: 

The Department of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation at California State University, Fullerton is committed to guiding prospective students and their families through the information-seeking and enrollment process for both the California State University system and Cal State Fullerton. We provide essential in-person and virtual tailored support services to facilitate a seamless transition to college, not limited to admissions requirements, CSU application workshops, campus tours, and new student orientation. Our personalized assistance aims to promote access to higher education, foster a diverse and inclusive community, and provide a foundation for student success.

 

About the Orientation Leader Position: 

Orientation Leaders will assist the department of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation in executing CSUF Orientation programs, inclusive of New Student Orientation, Parent & Supporter Orientation and Welcome Week activities. Orientation Leaders are responsible for supporting general event operations, leading small groups, leading campus tours, and forming connections with campus partners, new students, and parents and supporters. We are looking for a team of Orientation Leaders that represent a spectrum of experiences through majors, on and off campus involvements, interests, accomplishments, and backgrounds. 

 

Being an Orientation Leader is the perfect way to grow leadership skills, make a positive impact on new Titans, and build your own community of student leaders. 

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Be assigned small groups of new students during Orientation sessions and serve as a leader and facilitator of group activities;

  • Support general event operations not limited to check-in, room loading and unloading, guiding students around campus, facilitating discussions and mini-sessions, organizing event supplies;

  • Assist with the execution of Parent & Supporter Orientation and connect/communicate with parents and supporters;

  • Relate and connect with students, parents and supporters, and campus staff

  • Be reliable, punctual, responsible, flexible, a team player, and demonstrate strong communication skills;

  • Uphold values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion;

  • Serve as a positive and professional representative of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation, and Cal State Fullerton;

  • Opportunity to staff Welcome Week activities;

  • Opportunity to staff Spring Orientation 2026;

  • Attend all scheduled training days, session prep days, session days, and other team meetings;

  • Collaborate effectively with other ORO student staff and professional staff;

  • Adhere to all student staff expectations as outlined in the ORO student handbook;

  • Complete and adhere to all required trainings required by the University;

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

    • Matriculated CSUF undergraduate student enrolled in a full-time academic degree program

    • Enrolled in 5 units or less during the summer term. Students enrolled in more than 5 units during the summer will be automatically ineligible for the Orientation Leader position

    • GPA of 2.5 or greater during the Spring 2025 semester 

    • Good judicial standing with the Office of Student Conduct

    • Able to attend all required dates listed above 

    • Passion for fostering a team atmosphere and peer success 

    • Strong values for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

    • Ability to communicate effectively resolve conflict

    • Ability to meet deadlines, work in a fast-paced environment, problem-solve creatively, collaborate with other student leaders and professional staff

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
