About the Position:
The Office of Student Life and Leadership is committed to providing support and fostering community engagement to empower students through involvement, leadership, and co-curricular learning opportunities to enhance their Titan Experience. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Marketing and Communications Specialist (Public Affairs/Communications Specialist II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Student Life and Leadership, the Marketing and Communications Specialist develops and implements marketing strategies, communication plans, outreach efforts, and engagement initiatives that promote department initiatives within the Engagement and Well-Being cluster, specifically Basic Needs Services, Dean of Students/Care Services, Disability Support Services, Office of Student Conduct, and Student Life and Leadership. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will prioritize requests from Basic Needs Services. The Marketing and Communications Specialist creates various social media images; handles communication for social media and email; develops newsletters; enhances existing and new presentations for workshops and events; creates videos for communication and promotion; creates images for websites; recommends and implements website revisions; and participation on related committees. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will also represent departments within the Engagement and Well-Being cluster at communications-related work groups or committees. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
|
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and up to two years or related professional or technical experience. Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, as well as some exposure to marketing and marketing research. Possession of strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles. Ability to serve as a media spokesperson and/or senior editor. Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media. Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques, vehicles, and formats. Ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals. Ability to analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles. Possession of strong story development and journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills. Knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver media messages. Working knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods. Ability to apply market research to identify communication needs and target audiences. Ability to apply appropriate statistical techniques and methods to research. Possession of exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening, and interpretive skills. Ability to provide lead work direction. Working knowledge of popular social media outlets with the ability to schedule, submit information, and regulate content.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
|
Knowledge of campus and community resources for students. Participation in ally ship trainings or willingness to participate in on-campus ally trainings after hiring. Knowledge and experience with platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Canvas, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Forward thinker in recruitment, outreach, and marketing for a major university. Ability to use standard office equipment and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook). Ability and specialized skills to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; work independently and effectively as part of a team; exercise tact, discretion, and good judgment; handle sensitive and confidential information; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and possess strong computer skills including word processors, spreadsheets, and databases.
