About the Position: 

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) is one of eight colleges at Cal State Fullerton and contains five departments. The college offers through its departments and programs, baccalaureate degrees in all disciplines and master's degrees in biological science, chemistry, geology, physics and mathematics. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Dean, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (Administrator III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Natural Science and Mathematics, the Associate Dean is a key member of the Dean's leadership/management team and plays an important leadership role in the College. The Associate Dean works with the Dean, Department Chairs, and other personnel in developing the vision and goals for the College of NSM. The Associate Dean represents the Dean in their absence and attends meetings in their place as needed. The Associate Dean serves as a member of the College Council of Chairs and provides advice and assistance to the Dean in a variety of ways. Other specific areas of responsibility include the following.

Student Retention and Success: Assists the Dean in providing administrative oversight for the development, implementation, and coordination of integrated retention and student success initiatives.

Student Petitions: Reviews and processes academic petitions; works with college professional advisors, Chairs, and the Graduation Specialist in addressing student grievances, issues, and problems; represents the college on the University Petitions Committee.

Enrollment Management: Monitors class scheduling and enrollments; collects, organizes, and distributes enrollment data. Curriculum: Oversees and coordinates the review processes of all curricular elements in the College, including new course proposals and new degree/concentration proposals.

Space and Facilities/Equipment/Technology: Coordinates the planning and effective use of instructional, office, and support space toward meeting College and University goals; represents the Dean on college committees and on other issues related to equipment and facilities including space; serves as College liaison to CSUF IT.

Staff Evaluation: Oversees the College’s annual staff performance evaluation process; serves as a resource in staff recruitment, hiring, and classification.

Contracts and Grants Processing: Assists the Dean in promoting and facilitating research and grant programs in the College; serves as the College liaison to grant processing offices—Grants and Contracts, University Advancement, and the Auxiliary Services Corporation.

Faculty Awards/Grants: Coordinates various University Award, Grant, and Recognition opportunities.

Reports: Assists the Dean with writing and editing a variety of annual college reports and analyses. College Committees: provides administrative oversight for college wide committees such as Curriculum Committee, Safety Committee, Intramural Grants Committee, and College Personnel Review Committee.

University Committees/Events: Represents the College on various university committees and represents the College at various university and community events throughout the year. Other Responsibilities: May be assigned other duties by the Dean as needs arise to fulfill the mission of the college and the university. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Experienced, tenured faculty member at Cal State Fullerton, preferably from the College of NSM. Demonstrate a strong record of excellence in service and leadership, along with the ability to foster collaborative working relationships with the Dean’s office, staff, upper administration, and various units within the College of NSM. Evidence of active involvement with the external community and a deep commitment to the mission of the University and the diverse programs offered within the College of NSM. Knowledge of CSUF campus policies and systems is essential. Exhibit a firm commitment to student retention and success, as well as a strong dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring a just and equitable educational and workplace environment. A commitment to collegial governance is required, along with proficiency in computer skills and the ability to learn software applications related to managing enrollments, class schedules, and space planning. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for this position.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.
