Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, Black Student Academic Success Student Assistant, the position will serve as a student representative for Academic Affairs Black Student Success committee meetings and working groups, follow up on action items and assist with implementing decisions made during meetings, provide constructive feedback to faculty and staff, and contribute to the development of strategies for improving the academic experience for Black students at CSUF.
Assist the Executive Director with planning, implementing, and assessing academic support programs and workshops for Black students.
Assist Staff with their effort in supporting retention initiatives such as study groups, tutoring coordination, and midterm/finals prep events.
Assist the Executive Director with promoting culturally relevant academic resources.
Assist staff in tracking student interactions and event participation.
Create culturally affirming resources, newsletters, and social media content.
Assist the Executive Director with outreach to students at academic risk and help connect them with campus resources.
Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting for program assessment.
Attend regular staff meetings and provide input on ways to improve services.
Evening and weekend program attendance may be required.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
Experience working with diverse student populations, especially students of African descent.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate-Level Student.
Experience facilitating workshops or academic programs.
Knowledge of systemic challenges affecting Black student success in higher education.
Familiarity with campus resources and student success practices.
Required Qualifications
Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
