Job Summary

The Department of Communications prepares students to be effective and ethical communicators in advertising, entertainment, tourism, journalism, and public relations, and provides a grounding in ethical practice.

  The Department of Communications Student Assistant will support the department with administrative tasks and responsibilities, including basic clerical support to students, faculty, and staff.  On a daily basis, the student assistant will answer the department telephone, check the department email inbox, type, file, Xerox, shred documents, sort mail, make interoffice deliveries, post flyers, assist with coordinating department events and meetings, monitor department and club social media sites, and assist with creating social media content. The Communications Student Assistant is a public-facing position, so a cordial and professional manner is essential  

Student hires can be utilized in various offices within the Department of Communications, such as the main office or the Daily Titan Office. Duties include:

  • Assist with filing paperwork and data entry
  • Light typing of general forms or materials.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details in processing documents.
  • Update Excel spreadsheets
  • Assist with event planning and logistics
  • Distribute incoming mail
  • Maintain office supply levels
  • Communicate on a regular basis (online and in-person) with team members and the community
  • Comfortable with various social media platforms
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of graphic design including some experience with (or willingness to learn) Adobe Photoshop and InDesign and/or Canva.
  •  Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact and communicate professionally with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with ongoing interruptions with minimal supervision and with great attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) various social media platforms.
  • Ability to use independent judgment, critical thinking skills and analytical skills.
Some customer service experience

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  •  Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  •  In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents
  • Must be a current CSUF federal work-study student

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
