Job Summary

The EOP Student Assistant will be a positive reinforcement and support for incoming freshmen and other students seeking to improve their academic and personal well-being at CSUF. The EOP Peer Student Assistant will be responsible for modeling keen behaviors such as punctuality, professionalism, enthusiasm, responsibility, and most importantly, follow-through. Through group meetings and 1-1, peer mentors will meet with their mentees bi-weekly to develop rapport, discuss goals, future plans, and provide advice related to the student's personal and academic journey.  

The EOP Student Assistant will provide insight into their personal journey as a first-generation college student and share with their mentee how they have grown, matured, and sustained their personal and academic goals. Additionally, EOP Student Assistants will refer students to other on-campus resources, events, and activities that students can benefit from. Under the supervision of EOP Director and Assistant Director.   

Duties & responsibilities of the position include:  

  • Represent CSUF and the EOP program on and off campus and within the EOP spaces. 

  • 1-1 peer mentoring: The EOP student assistant will assist staff with supporting 5-15 mentees.

  • Schedule bi-weekly meetings (twice a month), and help students formulate personal and educational goals as it pertains to guiding students to navigate their collegiate experience at CSUF.

  • Meet regularly with their assigned EOP counselor to consult on peer mentor meetings, upcoming workshops, and events. 

  • Assists with the facilitation of EOP peer mentor workshops, events activities, helps with the logistical needs of mixers and events, and is an active participant in the learning community hour (for those with SB mentees) 
  • Refer students to other on-campus resources, events, and activities that students can benefit from.  

  • Represent EOP at major campus outreach events such as: Experience CSUF, Explore CSUF, Discover Fest, etc. . 

  • Attend professional development trainings provided by campus partners and EOP.  Attends mandatory monthly meetings.   
  • Organize and track inventory of supplies and promotional items 

  • Aid professional staff in office tasks and projects, including updating information/bulletin boards, answering phones, responding to voicemails, creating fliers, and replying to email requests, etc. 

  • Must be available 10-15 hours during the work week (Monday – Friday in 3-hour blocks of time) and specifically, Fridays from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm to attend mandatory trainings and staff meetings. Uphold the integrity of CSUF and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) department. Some evening and weekend work required.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position. Must be able to hold confidentiality to a higher standard.

Be a participant of the educational opportunity program.
Has completed a minimum of 45 units
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
Have a positive attitude, ability to empathize and relate to other students, and work well with students from different cultural backgrounds.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
