Job Summary

Under the direction of the Office Coordinator and Assistant Director, the Student Assistant is a unique position within the Business Advising Center. The student assistant in this position will go through intensive training to be able to provide support to their peers through offering exceptional customer service, support to the front desk through answering phone calls and directing students appropriately, and support to the business advisors by assisting with advising campaigns and workshops.

Duties and responsibilities associated with the position and how they relate to the purpose or role

Front Desk Support
1. Assist with answering phones and referring walk-in students to appropriate resources.
2. Assist the coordinator with front desk coverage.
3. Review online databases for student information
4. Assist with the intake and processing of student documents.
5. Prepare petitions for review by the Director.
Peer Support Tasks
1. Respond to general inquiries through phone and virtual modalities.
2. Help with in-person general student inquiries and questions.
3. Support advisors during high-volume periods by tabling, answering phone calls, and directing students to appropriate resources.
4. Answer quick questions about course scheduling and concentration declarations.
5. Provide guidance for students experiencing registration issues.
6. Assist with advising projects and campaigns.
Event Support
1. Provide support during New Student Orientation.
2. Provide support during Experience CSUF: Become a Titan.
3. Provide support during Commencement.
4. Provide additional support during various student-centered campaigns throughout the course of the semester.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
