This position has a variable schedule based on event needs and may include weeks with no scheduled hours. Work hours are not guaranteed and will fluctuate depending on campus events and student availability.

Job Summary

The Tuffy the Titan Mascot Student Assistant  is an exciting opportunity for students to become CSUF’s beloved mascot, Tuffy the Titan, and/or serve as Tuffy’s handler. In this role, you will attend on-campus and occasional off-campus events, some of which are hosted by various units within the Division of Student Affairs, where you will interact with students, staff, alumni, and community members to create energy, positivity, and school spirit. You will represent CSUF in a positive and spirited manner, engaging audiences, taking photos, and fostering a fun and welcoming atmosphere. The position supports the mission of the Department of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation by promoting Titan pride, building community connections, and contributing to outreach and orientation efforts that provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for prospective and current students.

- Perform as Tuffy the Titan at on-campus and occasional off-campus events, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere.
- Serve as Tuffy’s handler when assigned, ensuring the mascot’s safety, guiding them through event spaces, and facilitating positive interactions with attendees.
- Greet, interact, and take photos with students, families, alumni, and community members to promote Titan spirit.
- Maintain the confidentiality of Tuffy’s identity at all times.
- Keep the mascot costume clean, organized, and ready for use.
- work with staff to make sure they are secure in any campus spaces and properly manage keys or access cards when applicable.
- Attend required trainings and periodic check-ins as scheduled.
- Communicate availability in advance to ensure accurate scheduling.
- Adapt to a varied schedule, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Manage time effectively to balance school, other responsibilities, and this position’s variable schedule.
- Ensure compliance with student worker hourly limits if holding additional on-campus employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

- Must be a matriculated CSUF student in good academic and judicial standing.
- Maintain a cumulative and term GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Be reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse audiences.
- Demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to positive representation of CSUF.
- Be adaptable and able to work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors.
- Comfortable wearing a full-body mascot costume and/or assisting as a handler in public settings.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism, customer service, and teamwork.
- Understand that employment may be terminated for failure to meet academic, conduct, or performance expectations.

- Will need to have a valid driver's license as you may need to drive around campus in carts or to off-site areas. 

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
