About the Position:
The Dean of Students Office helps Titans reach higher by serving as an advocate for students, connecting them to the appropriate university resources, and collaborating meaningfully with the campus community. We assist students in navigating the university and resolving educational, personal, and other concerns that impact the quality of their Titan experience. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director of Care Services (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students, the Director of Care Services serves a pivotal role in promoting student well-being, engagement, and success at Cal State Fullerton. This position is responsible for overseeing non-clinical case management services for students experiencing academic, emotional, physical, or mental health-related distress, as well as coordinating key student development programs. The Director provides proactive support services designed to reduce student distress and enhance their overall well-being. Responsibilities include assessment, intervention, referral coordination, and follow-up services. While the position does not provide clinical or crisis services, it plays a vital role in supporting students who exhibit concerning or challenging behaviors that may impact their academic or personal success.
In addition to case management, the Director oversees signature student development initiatives such as the Panetta Congressional Internship Program and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Ambassador Program. These initiatives are designed to promote student integration, leadership development, and a sense of belonging on campus. The Director also collaborates across the campus community to deliver trainings and educational programs focused on identifying and supporting students in distress. This includes partnering with student affairs units, faculty, clinicians, and other stakeholders to implement strategies and expand resources that support student wellness and retention. The position maintains responsibility for managing the non-clinical case management system (e.g., Maxient), conducting data collection and assessment to evaluate the impact of care services, and providing timely guidance and consultation to students, staff, and faculty regarding student support and care referrals.
Housed within the Dean of Students Office, the Director of Care Services plays a vital role in advancing student well-being, success, and engagement. By leading programs that address students’ holistic needs—through care coordination, developmental initiatives, and advocacy—the Director supports the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and the Dean of Students Office. This position serves as a key resource in connecting students to appropriate campus support services and fostering a campus environment where all Titans can thrive academically, personally, and socially. Essential Qualifications
|
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or related field. Experience with non-clinical case management within a Dean of Students, Care Services, or another relatable department. At least three years of experience in student services, including program assessment and department oversight. Experience overseeing the daily operations for a department. The ability to work independently and with minimal supervision at times. Experience advising students which includes knowledge of leadership and organizational development principles and theories. Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and complex student situations with discretion and sound judgment. Experience leading assessment initiatives and using data to inform programs and policy.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
|
Three to five years case management experience working with students in distress on a college campus. Thorough knowledge of care services and basic needs work within higher education settings including Behavioral Intervention Team support. Proven ability to identify problems, use sound judgment, and reasoning to make crucial decisions. Demonstrated ability in managing difficult and complex situations involving students. Strong written, oral communication, and proofreading skills. Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, along with attention to detail. Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. General knowledge of the policies, practices, and activities of Student Affairs programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
