Job Summary

Under the direction of the Interlibrary Loan coordinator, Student assistants share responsibilities and duties with fellow student assistants.  Working together or independently to complete work associated with interlibrary loan lending and borrowing.  This person will interact with more of the core functions of the library: Reference, Circulation, Technical Services, University Archives & Special Collections and Library Administration.  

Interlibrary Loan student assistants perform numerous procedures associated with interlibrary lending and borrowing and in-library services for faculty, staff, and students.  They will develop expertise in complex software applications in their daily work.  Student assistants build their knowledge of tools and techniques used in searching databases, achieving their scholarly needs through troubleshooting and finding resolutions to work-related tasks. 

Procedures include, but are not limited to: 

• Searching and pulling items from stacks 
• Updating and checking out items 
• Preparing loans for shipment 
• Processing of incoming receives 
• Processing of returns 
• Scanning and sending of requests from paper and microform media 
• Processing incoming and outgoing courier shipments 
• Processing incoming and outgoing UPS and US mail 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
  • Must have applied and received Federal Work-Study as a part of their financial aid award; must be approved by Financial Aid.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Punctuality and dependability.
  • Excellent listening and follow-through skills.
  • Able to concentrate in a semi-busy environment and paying close attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Familiarity with the libraries catalogue and knowledge of the libraries call number system.
  • Ability to apply rules in accordance with policy, regulations and procedures.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
