Job Summary

The EOP student peer mentor will be a positive re-enforcement and support for incoming freshman and other students seeking to improve their academic and personal well-being at CSUF. The EOP Peer mentor will be responsible for modeling keen behaviors such as punctuality, professionalism, enthusiasm, responsibility and most importantly follow-through. 

Under the general supervision of the EOP Coordinator, The EOP Peer Mentor is responsible for:

  • Cultivate and foster supportive relationships with EOP first time first year students.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to identity, belonging, and inclusion.
  • Attend monthly All Mentor Meetings to receive training, discuss trends, progress, concerns, and questions.
  • Attend a monthly All Cohort Event
  • Attend weekly training and events related to the role/department.
  • Coordinate and facilitate times to meet with mentees
  • Hold biweekly meetings with mentees
  • Meet with Program Coordinator 1:1 meetings (as needed)
  • Identify and refer students to campus and community resources
  • Establishes, reviews, and follows up with mentee’s goals and objectives
  • Complete interaction logs
  • Participate in EOP Leadership Conference activities, CSUF Experience day, and all department welcome events

Minimum Qualifications

Must be an enrolled CSUF student for the 2026/2027 academic year.  An energetic and dedicated student worker who has good oral and written communication skills to mentor incoming/newer transfer students. Must be customer service-oriented. Follow office standards, including proper email and phone etiquette maintain professionalism, function in an inclusive workspace.  Ability to work with diverse population of students/parents and staff, in person, over the phone, and through email. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

  1. Maintain good academic standing (2.5 GPA minimum)
  2. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively in one-on one settings and within groups.
  3. Disciplined, reliable, and present in meetings, events, and trainings.
  4. Maintain confidentiality
  5. Awareness and mindfulness of identity
  6. Ability to understand, establish and maintain boundaries.
  7. Demonstrate an ability to prioritize and manage tasks and meet deadlines
  8. Must be available Fridays from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm for mandatory student staff trainings and professional development workshops (academic year specific, does not include summer 2026).

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
