Asian Pacific Excellence (APEX) Program Graduate Assistant Pool

POSITION
|
The APEX Program at California State University, Fullerton is seeking a motivated and student-centered Graduate Assistant to support culturally responsive programming, peer mentorship initiatives, and student engagement efforts focused on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) student success.
The Graduate Assistant will assist with program coordination, peer mentor oversight, leadership development initiatives, student outreach, and administrative support. This position offers hands-on experience in higher education, student affairs, mentorship development, and culturally grounded programming.
The Graduate Assistant will gain professional experience in:
- Student mentorship and leadership development
- Program planning and implementation
- Higher education administration
- Assessment and evaluation practices
- Campus collaboration and student engagement strategies
This is a pool of Graduate Assistants for the program to draw on as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
|
Student Mentorship & Peer Mentor Support
- Develop and conduct peer mentor training for APEX Participants
- Meet with APEX Participants on a bi-weeky basis and provide appropriate support
- Help coordinate mentor meetings, leadership development activities, and reflection opportunities.
- Monitor participation and maintain mentorship program documentation.
Program Coordination & Student Engagement
- Support planning and implementation of workshops, leadership programs, cultural events, excursions, and community-building initiatives.
- Assist with event logistics including reservations, supplies, outreach, setup, and day-of support.
- Collaborate with campus partners and student leaders to enhance student engagement efforts.
Administrative & Assessment Support
- Assist with attendance tracking, data collection, and program assessment.
- Support creation of surveys, reports, outreach materials, and program communications.
- Maintain organized records, calendars, and shared program resources.
Professional & Leadership Development
- Serve as a positive role model and resource for students.
- Contribute to an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Participate in professional development and supervision meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
|
- Current enrollment in a graduate program at California State University, Fullerton.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
|
- Experience in student leadership, mentorship, orientation, peer education, or student affairs.
- Experience planning programs, workshops, or events.
- Familiarity with culturally responsive programming and AANHPI student experiences.
- Experience with Canva, Google Workspace, social media, or assessment tools preferred.

COMPENSATION
|
All Graduate Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
Classification Range: $3,245 to $6,072 per month Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $3,408 per month
The full-time monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the time base assigned.

|
The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.

|
This offer maybe contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or if information was knowingly withheld or falsified.
Please note, that continued employment is contingent upon your successful completion of a background screening as required under CSU policy. Graduate Assistants rehired at CSUF after a break in service of 12 or more months who have not had a CSUF background check within the past 12 months will be subject to a new background check; rehire is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the new background check.
