Position Overview
The Student Assistant Peer Mentor serves as a vital bridge between the College of Business and Economics and its student body. Student assistants work with staff to gain experience to work as mentors, providing personalized guidance to help up to 10 mentees build academic resilience, increase self-efficacy, and foster a deep sense of belonging within the university community.
Time Commitment (Minimum 5 Hours/Week)
• Peer Connection & Outreach (3 hours): Meeting with assigned peers (individually or in small groups) and hosting informal social meetups
• Team Meetings & Check-ins (1 hour): Attending weekly mentor meetings with Program Lead to report on student engagement and receive guidance
• Activity Preparation & Communication (1 hour): Checking communication platforms, answering routine peer questions, and sharing campus event information
Core Responsibilities
• Meet regularly with a small group of assigned business students to check in on their transition to CSUF, answer general questions, and offer encouragement.
• Direct students to established CSUF and CBE resources (such as tutoring, advising, career services, and student clubs).
• Participate in and help host informal peer group activities, ice-breakers, and social events to foster community belonging.
• Share personal tips and experiences regarding time management, study habits, and navigating the campus environment.
• Maintain a positive, professional, and helpful attitude as a representative of CBE, welcoming first-year and transfer students.
• Understand and respect student privacy guidelines (FERPA) as outlined during training.
• Attend weekly team meetings to share updates on student participation and flag any common student challenges to the Program Lead.
• Keep basic, accurate records of peer attendance/interactions and complete all university-mandated training.
Position Requirements
• Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student in the College of Business and Economics in good academic standing.
• Must attend the mandatory training session (tentatively Friday, August 28, 2026, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM).
• Strong communication skills, empathy, a friendly demeanor, and a desire to help fellow Titans succeed.
