Job Summary

This is a part-time FWS position at the Scholarships Office as a Scholarships Office Student Assistant Peer Mentor. The student will assist in various areas of the office, as needed:

document imaging, receptionist, and peer mentor. Student will: create a welcoming environment for clients, assist clients in the scholarships and financial aid process, and review incoming documents for completeness. Student assistant will answer basic scholarship and financial aid questions as a receptionist, at the counter, in the office, via email, through ServiceNow tickets, and on the telephones. 

Additional responsibilities may include: assisting staff with preparing documents for students for financial aid verification and scholarships; sorting, date-stamping, and reviewing mail for completeness and routing to appropriate staff; returning incomplete documents and forwarding those that are complete for continued processing; scanning documents; and mailing all notifications. 

Student Assistants will gain an understanding of the scholarship process at CSUF and the financial aid program eligibility requirements.  The student will start the business day in the lobby by logging on to computers, unlocking entrances with staff present, preparing the client service area and environment, and end the day by logging off computers and preparing the client service area for the next day. Training and orientation will be in the Office of Financial Aid, the Scholarships Office, and the Titan Hub and will consist of observing other full-time staff as they serve students at the records, reception, counter, and telephone service areas.  In addition, responsibilities include other duties as assigned and occasional evenings and weekends for outreach events. 

This is a 10-20 hours a week position with a tentative start date in the Fall 2026 semester, continuing through the 2026-2027 academic year, contingent upon office needs and FWS guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

This is a Federal Work Study position.  Students must have FWS to apply for this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. The candidate must be able to listen to others and respond in a clear, accurate, and concise manner; be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions; and work and interact with a diverse population and professional staff. Candidate must be able to learn quickly, follow directions, and complete tasks on time. Prior experience working in customer service with college students or the public is desired.

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

All majors accepted; first-year students, sophomores, and juniors considered; customer service preferred; Federal Work-Study required; students without FWS will not be considered.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, or academic dismissal).
  • A student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.
