This is a Federal Work Study position. Students must have FWS to apply for this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. The candidate must be able to listen to others and respond in a clear, accurate, and concise manner; be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions; and work and interact with a diverse population and professional staff. Candidate must be able to learn quickly, follow directions, and complete tasks on time. Prior experience working in customer service with college students or the public is desired.
This is a 10-20 hours a week position with a tentative start date in August, continuing through the 2026-27 academic year, contingent upon office needs and FWS guidelines.
-Create a welcoming environment for students and assist students in the financial aid process. Review incoming documents for completeness, make appointments, and referrals when necessary.
-Answer basic financial aid questions as a receptionist, at the counter, and on the telephones.
-Additional responsibilities may include: reviewing documents submitted, making appointments and referrals, clerical duties for FA Counselors, and outreach via phone or email to current students.
-Will gain an understanding of financial aid program eligibility requirements.
-Will start the business day in the lobby by logging on computers, unlocking entrances with staff present, preparing the client service area and environment, and end the day by logging off computers, locking entrances, and preparing the client service area for the next day.
-Training and orientation will be in the Office of Financial Aid and consist of online training in basic Financial Aid eligibility and observing other full-time staff while they serve students, reception, counter, and telephone service area. In addition, responsibilities include other duties as assigned and occasional evenings and weekends for outreach events.
