Graduate Assistant Pool

POSITION

The Department of Asian American Studies (ASAM) at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Graduate Assistant Pool.

We welcome applications from current CSUF graduate students to assist ASAM faculty in the following activities:

  • Attend course lectures
  • Prepare for class sessions
  • Hold office hours per week
  • Evaluate student assignments
  • Proctor examinations
  • Perform individual and/or group tutoring
  • Provide research assistance
  • Provide support for promotion of classes and department activities

This is a pool of Graduate Assistants for the department to draw on as necessary.

APPOINTMENTS FROM THE POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MAY BE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT ON VERY SHORT NOTICE. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must be a currently enrolled graduate student in at least their second year at CSUF.
  • Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Completed coursework focusing on Ethnic Studies, preferably at least one course in Asian American Studies, African American Studies, and Chicana/o Studies.
  • Earn an average of 3.5 in courses in Ethnic Studies coursework.
  • Excellent organizational skills (e.g. time management, communication, self-motivation, attention to detail).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (e.g. active listening, teamwork, patience, flexibility, responsibility)
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Must be able to work a total of 5-15 hours a week
  • Position is in-person and remote, per approval
  • Interested candidate must be available to attend mandatory in-person training. Dates/Time/Location: TBD.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Research Skills (e.g. compiling annotated bibliography)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel

COMPENSATION

All Graduate Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers.  Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification Range: $3,090 to $5,783 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $5,200

The full-time monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the time base assigned.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
