Position Description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Advancement and External Relations, the CAFES Advancement Coordinator provides comprehensive administrative oversight and support for the College of Agriculture, Food, & Environmental Sciences (CAFES) Advancement Office.  In this position, the incumbent will support the coordination of efforts associated with fundraising and development. This position also provides administrative support to the Director(s) of Development and the Assistant Dean for Strategic Initiatives, Communications and Student Leadership and will interface directly with donors, volunteers, University Development and Alumni Engagement staff, department heads, associate deans, and others in assisting the college in achieving its fundraising goals.

Department Summary

The College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences is the fifth-largest public college of agriculture in the United States, with over 4,100 undergraduate students, 184 full time faculty and staff, 15 majors, and five graduate programs.  We have a very strong faculty and an accomplished student body with an incoming high school GPA of 4.0, a large university farm (over 10,000 acres of cropland, pasture, and forest, with student-run enterprises in dairy, beef cattle, poultry, sheep, horses, organic and conventional crops, and a food science pilot plant, the new Oppenheimer Family Equine Center, a commercial winery in the Justin and J. Lohr Center for Wine and Viticulture, under construction, and many other facilities), several research centers, and the Learn By Doing ethos that is central to Cal Poly’s mission.

Key Qualifications

  • Proficiency in identifying, outlining, initiating, and coordinating multiple activities simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment in order to accomplish large-scale, complex projects with a broad, visible impact; setting deadlines with ability to reschedule and distribute work assignments based on shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated success in effective interpersonal interactions at all levels including in highly sensitive interpersonal situations; ability to maintain confidentiality, be personable, a team player and utilize professionalism in dealing with internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to make independent decisions on day-to-day operations of program, with a particular emphasis on interpreting and applying specialized policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate projects in order to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions.
  • Strong independent judgment and ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, and use own discretion to act when precedents do not exist, while taking initiative to address problems and develop practical and thorough solutions.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Five years of general office support or technical experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience)

Total Compensation:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $43,200 - $56,400 per year

Classification Range: $36,768 - $61,776 per year

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This would require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
