MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT, PART-TIME LECTURER POOL

The Mathematics Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers. Positions available as determined by need during the Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarters of the 2024-25 academic year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base. Responsibilities usually include teaching lower division mathematics courses such as Precalculus Algebra, Precalculus Trigonometry, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Calculus for the Life Sciences I, Calculus for the Life Sciences II, Calculus for Architecture and Construction Management, Calculus for Business and Economics, Calculus IV, and Linear Analysis I.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2023, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,007-$6,359
Lecturer B: $5,925-$12,594
Lecturer C: $6,500-$13,831
Lecturer D: $8,184-$14,487

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or closely related discipline, such as Physical Science or Engineering is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in Mathematics or a closely related discipline, such as Physical Science or Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience teaching mathematics at the collegiate level, especially Calculus and/or Differential Equations.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Mathematics Department offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses. There are approximately 175 sections of math classes each quarter with an average lower-division enrollment of 35 per class. The faculty consists of approximately 32 permanent faculty, 20 temporary (both full-time and part-time), and 15 graduate teaching associates. The Mathematics Department does not offer any courses in statistics or computer science. Applicants interested in teaching in those areas should contact the Statistics Department or the Computer Science Department.
