The Kinesiology and Public Health Department in the College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking to hire one full-time lecturer for a two-year contract, with an appointment beginning September 11, 2025 and ending approximately May 21, 2027. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for this role is $78,432 - $89,772 annually. 

Primary duties and responsibilities are to teach undergraduate classes in kinesiology and exercise science, physical activity classes (KINE 100-176) and supervise undergraduate research.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology, or closely related field is required.
  • Doctoral candidates with all but dissertation completed (ABD) can be considered. All requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed before September 11, 2025.
  • Must have ability to teach the following undergraduate courses: Introductory Principles of Exercise Science and Sport, Pathophysiology and Exercise, Electrocardiography and Exercise; Exercise Physiology Labs, physical activity classes (KINE 100-176); and supervise undergraduate research.
  • Must also have the ability to teach in two or more of the following areas: Adapted Physical Activity and labs; First Aid and CPR; Electrocardiography labs; Exercise & Health Gerontology; Fitness Assessment & Exercise Prescription labs; Functional Anatomy; Introduction/Orientation to Kinesiology; Introduction to Perspectives in Physical Activity; Motor Learning labs; Pathophysiology and Exercise; Physical Activity & Public Health; Psychology of Injury; Research Methods and labs; Sport, Media and Popular Culture; Sport and Gender; Sports Nutrition; Personal and Group Fitness.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • University teaching experience using face to face, online and hybrid delivery.
  • Experience or the ability to supervise undergraduate research.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Kinesiology and Public Health Department is a major academic unit within the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics offering a BS in Kinesiology and a BS in Public Health.  There are approximately 550 undergraduate students, 15 full time faculty, 4 full time lecturers, 25 part time faculty, and 5 support staff. The mission of the Kinesiology and Public Health (KPH) Department is to promote physical activity and health for all through excellence in teaching, research and service. The Center for Health Research (CHR) is a University Research Center housed within the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health that includes several ongoing multi-million-dollar NIH-funded research grants. Projects include several long-term prospective human research studies involving hundreds of community participants, dozens of local community contracts and partners, and several national and international partners. There are approximately 30 staff positions funded by external research grants including researchers, faculty investigators, research staff, a community liaison, database managers, phlebotomists, a technician, student research fellows, medical consultants and a translator. In addition, there are 20-30 undergraduate students conducting independent research in any given quarter.
