The Department of First-Year & University Programs (FYUP) at California State University San Marcos seeks a lecturer to serve as the faculty lead for FYUP’s first-year seminar (FYS) and future student success curricula. The FYUP FYS Faculty Lead provides administrative, curricular, and professional development support for FYUP. The FYUP FYS Faculty Lead coordinates FYUP FYS operations, including schedule building, enrollment management and cross-unit collaborations with FYUP’s curriculum, while maintaining clear communication within FYUP and with key campus partners. The position oversees the development, implementation, and continuity of first-year, second-year, and transfer support curricula, and works closely with FYUP faculty to support instructional coherence, learning communities, and the FYS Council. In partnership with the FYUP Chair, the role also contributes to faculty professional development and serves as a key connector advancing student success initiatives across Academic Affairs.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A master's degree
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, particularly first-generation students, to facilitate their transition to the academic and social demands of college. 
  • Experience teaching GEL 101: General Education Lifelong Learning & Information Literacy—The Student, The University, The Community; and/or UNIV 101: The First-Year Seminar at California State University, San Marcos
  • Hold a 1- or 3-year contract in First-Year & University Programs
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in education, teaching and learning, instruction and curriculum development, or in the area of adult education.   
  • Understanding of CSU undergraduate general education requirements and ability to direct/guide students toward the necessary information/resources for developing  academic plans and career goals.
  • Experience contributing to academic programs or curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-divisionally with faculty, staff, and/or administrators in support of student success.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

This is a part-time, .40 FTE (6 WTUs per semester), academic year, exempt position that is eligible for benefits. The position will be paid at your current faculty salary with the potential for an additional summer stipend. The initial appointment is for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance, programmatic needs, and available funding. Depending on departmental needs and available funding, this appointment may increase to up to 0.60 FTE (9 WTUs per semester) in a subsequent academic year.

    Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,555 per full-time month, with the potential for an additional summer stipend.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

    CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month

    CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
