Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director for Operations, the Senior Maintenance Lead oversees the daily activities of the maintenance staff and is responsible for leading all trades and non-trades work assigned within the Student Housing Operations unit. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring the ticket system and assisting with projects with outside vendors, as assigned, responsible for monitoring all the purchasing that is needed within the Maintenance area, overseeing inventory, performing daily tasks as a maintenance mechanic, performing hands-on work with skilled trades and assist others in work projects as needed.

  • Provides direction for the daily activities of the maintenance crew (semi-skilled and skilled journey-level crafts workers), ensuring that work tickets and repairs are completed daily; prioritizes, assigns, and monitors the work of all maintenance crew.
  • Performs hands-on work alongside skilled and non-skilled trades as necessary ensuring that work tickets and repairs are completed daily.
  • Monitors maintenance staff expenditures and regularly reviews the budget with the Associate Director for Operations. Assists in the reconciliation of staff P-cards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must possess journey-level skills in a building or construction trade. Must have demonstrated achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
  • Two (2) years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in one or more building trades including one (1) year in a lead/supervisory capacity.
  • LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of: methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the building and construction trades; effective supervisory practices and techniques; job design and work sequencing related to construction projects; and applicable state and federal safety, building, and construction codes and regulations.
  • Ability to: operate all applicable building tools and equipment; plan and direct the work of skilled crafts workers and their assistants; determine and coordinate staffing, material, and equipment needs for multiple jobs and projects; perform basic design work; read blueprints; work from plans and specifications.
  • Ability to: prepare rough sketches; analyze and respond appropriately to emergencies; ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems; prepare reports; read and write at a level appropriate for the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: Facilities Project Supervisor / 6265 / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $7497 - $7799 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $7497 - $10,921 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
