Position Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision of Manager, Platform Services, this position deploys, designs, enhances, manages, documents, and maintains computer systems and servers in AWS and VMware platforms. The role supports both internal ITS teams and University partners by ensuring these platforms are available, secure reliable and fully optimized. This position leverages supporting systems to ensure service availability, integrity, security, performance, and reliability.

This position is eligible for remote work pursuant to Cal Poly’s Telecommuting and Remote Work Guidelines and the CSU policy requiring that all work be performed within the State of California.

Department Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) is a fast-moving team that is responsible for helping Cal Poly achieve academic excellence through developing and implementing learning, teaching, and administrative solutions which leverage technology that align with strategic goals and objectives. With a focus on continuous improvement, ITS fosters innovation, supports continuous learning, and develops people to their full potential. Our team of more than 170 professionals works in a DevOps environment to shape the technology landscape at Cal Poly.

Key Qualifications

  • Comprehensive experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Demonstrated expertise in support and management practices, including backup & restore, system maintenance, networking, scripting, security, and enterprise infrastructure services such as OS deployment, monitoring, disaster recovery, server hardware, and automation.

  • Demonstrated ability with supporting and using system configuration tools in a large-scale enterprise DevOps environment (e.g. Microsoft Configuration Manager, AWS SSM, Ansible).

  • Demonstrated skill supporting and working with complex enterprise virtualization environments, including VMware and AWS.

  • Knowledge and experience with automation languages (e.g. Ansible playbooks, Bash, Python, PowerShell).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $89,250 - $102,300 Per Year

Classification Range: $61,896 - $152,760 Per Year

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

Supplemental Information
