Responsibilities

Reporting to IT’s Technology Strategy Officer, this position will lead IT’s PMO, including the development and implementation of project frameworks, standards, and methodologies that ensure consistency and quality in project management execution. In collaboration with IT leadership and broader cross-functional teams, this position will also drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization, identifying opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency gains, including adoption of AI and automation tools.

Governance and PMO:

    • Lead the IT project portfolio management and prioritization process, ensuring clear alignment with CSUN’s Road Ahead, IT Strategic Priorities, and overall organizational goals and objectives.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain PMO frameworks, project governance models, standards, methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality in project management execution.
    • Collaborate with the TSO, CIO, IT leadership, and IT governance groups to define and prioritize projects and initiatives, identify opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and drive overall efficiency gains.
    • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Finance and Human Resources, provide guidance and support to project leaders for planning, budgeting, risk management and mitigation, and resource management. Drive a culture of empowerment and accountability.

Continuous Improvement:

    • Lead and manage continuous improvement efforts, including the adoption of AI tools to drive efficiencies, increase automation, and enable team members to focus on higher-value work.

 

Communications:

    • Ensure strategic, timely, and dynamic messaging across IT communication channels—including web, email, mobile/web apps, and social media—to consistently target the right audience segments.
    • Oversee and maintain IT’s web presence including the IT Road Ahead web site, to ensure content is consistent, current, accurate, and engaging in alignment with university guidelines. 
    • Review and approve communications for distribution to students, faculty and staff for planned maintenance, enhancements, service deployments, and other technology changes.
    • Partner with IT service owners to develop and implement communication campaigns to promote effective technology adoption.

Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Engage with governance and advisory groups, and other campus stakeholders to plan, establish goals, track, and communicate project updates, and represent IT’s related interests.
    • Foster a collaborative environment to support change management and the adoption of new processes.
    • Support IT leadership as needed, by participating in governance and advisory groups to provide updates on IT’s progress towards completing projects and initiatives in alignment with CSUN’s Road Ahead objectives.

Leadership and Advisory:

    • Mentor and develop IT project leaders, fostering a culture of continual improvement, continuous learning, and driving measurable outcomes.
    • Advise the TSO and CIO on PMO and continual improvement program advancement recommendations and related strategies

Data Informed Decision Making:

    • In collaboration with the IT Data and Analytics team, develop and implement metrics, dashboards, and reports to portray IT Service utilization across the portfolio. Leverage this data to inform broad IT planning, budgeting, and service lifecycle management.
    • Conduct ongoing analysis of IT’s project portfolio and provide regular updates to IT Planning on portfolio health, critical initiative status and related risks.

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A master’s degree in a related field, e.g., Project Management, Public Administration, is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of PMO frameworks and experience supporting enterprise strategic goals and initiatives and managing related activities.
  • At least five years of demonstrating strong organizational skills and executive-level communication and collaboration.
  • Higher education Information Technology experience is strongly preferred.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $100,000 - $110,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
