Anticipated Hiring Range

$9,584.00 - $12,500.00 per month ($115,008.00 - $150,000 Annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Director of the Student Health Services (SHS), the Nurse Clinic Manager is responsible for the care provided to SF State University students by SHS's Registered Nurses and licensed/unlicensed clinical support staff.

The Nurse Clinic Manager is responsible for leading the daily and administrative functions in the SHS. Principal responsibilities include operations, managing of staff and resources, facilitating research and education, and maintaining compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. The Nurse Clinic Manager establishes quality improvement efforts to support the delivery of patient focused care and knowledge-based decision making as the framework for superior delivery of care. The Nurse Clinic Manager facilitates communication, coordination, and collaboration among the SHS staff regarding identification, planning, and provision of high quality, cost-effective care. The Nurse Clinic Manager is a resource within the SHS and to the SFSU community. 

The Nurse Clinic Manager is a key member of the SHS Leadership Team.  This is an on-site position.

Position Information

  • Directly supervises and manages the performance of the following classification of staff: Registered Nurses (RN); licensed/unlicensed clinical support staff in the SHS Clinics; and the SHS Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waived Lab.
  • Responsible for the provision of patient centered healthcare and the quality assurance programs
  • Responsible for providing clinical and administrative supervision in support of SHS's mission, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management's (SAEM) mission, and the values and themes of SF State University's Strategic Plan
  • Responsible for partnering with campus and community departments/agencies to secure student access to quality health care services on and off campus.
  • Leads the day-to-day operations and coordination of patient care services.
  • Leads the clinic to improve patient, provider, and staff satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities to increase quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Identify indicators to measure, evaluate, and improve care.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations and accreditation requirements - Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC).
  • Oversee clinic staffing and scheduling of work assignments.
  • Recruit staff members who are in congruence with service excellence and quality patient care.
  • Oversee the completion/monitoring of staff competencies and performance evaluations.
  • Institute necessary modifications to clinic operations commitments as financial changes dictate.
  • Stay abreast of new technology in supplies and equipment and evaluate for quality and cost improvements.
  • Provide facility management/oversight.
  • Evaluate SHS services utilization and make recommendation for improvement.
  • Oversees Student Assistants.
  • Oversees Immunization program for SHS employees and students.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other campus departments to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Manages resources effectively.
  • Coordinates and or facilitate staff training and professional development programs.
  • Facilitates communication between clinical staff and leadership.
  • Handle patient complaints and work to resolve any issues related to clinical services.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Oversee medical equipment sterilization process and training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A current valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program. 
  • Must pass a credentialing check, including verification of education, training and licensure.
  • Must pass background check including fingerprinting check.
  • Possession of a current CPR/AED Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree or California Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP).
  • Full-time equivalent of at least three (3) years of experience as an acute care nurse (outpatient setting).

Progressively responsible leadership experience in an outpatient health care environment with at least two (2) years of direct supervisory experience, including management of RNs and ancillary clinical staff.

  • Experience in supervising and evaluating employees, resolving conflicts, problem solving and facilitating collaboration in a diverse workforce.
  • Knowledge of nationally recognized accreditation standards, processes and health care models.
  • Knowledge of healthcare clinic administration, budgeting and billing.
  • Experience with an electronic medical record system and practice management system to record and analyze the delivery of healthcare
  • Knowledgeable of implementation and assessment of infection control procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate open discussions and write clear and concise analyses and reports
  • Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with and respond to multiple constituencies at all levels in a large, decentralized organization.
  • Experience in young adult/college health.
  • Experience in Public Health.

Required License / Certification

  • A current valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Possession of a current CPR/AED Certificate.

Environmental/Physical/Special

Some work on weekends and holidays will be required. Position involves occasional automobile and air travel to offsite locations. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
