Job Summary:

This is a temporary position for an expected one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

The Data Developer is responsible for coordinating the full software development lifecycle for over 25 web applications and services, ensuring their performance, security, and reliability. This position collaborates with campus stakeholders, UX developers, and third-party vendors to enhance applications like the CSUSB Mobile App and Campus Portal while integrating scalable system architectures and APIs. Additionally, this position manages databases, optimizes system performance, and produces technical documentation to support ongoing development and university needs.

Responsibilities

Software Development & Maintenance: The Data Developer will coordinate the full software development lifecycle for over 25 web applications and services, handling everything from planning and coding to testing and deployment. This position will write efficient, high-quality code, debug issues, and implement new features to improve application functionality. Additionally, this position will collaborate with programmers and third-party vendors to enhance applications such as the CSUSB Mobile App and Campus Portal, ensuring that all applications are optimized for performance, reliability, and security.

System Architecture & Integration: The Data Developer will design scalable, secure, and long-term system architectures that integrate cloud and on-premise solutions. Develop and maintain APIs to facilitate seamless data exchange between university and third-party systems while managing database systems using technologies like MySQL, Java, and Spring to ensure data integrity and optimized performance. Additionally, this position will utilize Docker for container networking, load balancing, and system reliability, ensuring maximum uptime for critical applications.

Stakeholder Collaboration & User Experience Enhancement: Working closely with campus stakeholders, the Data Developer gathers requirements to ensure that applications meet the university’s needs. Collaborate with the UX Developer to evaluate and implement improvements to the mobile app and portal while also providing ongoing support by maintaining and updating applications based on user feedback. Furthermore, this position will assist in marketing new app features and managing the app’s presence in app stores to ensure compliance and visibility.

Technical Documentation & Project Coordination: In addition to development work, the Data Developer will be responsible for producing technical documentation, user guides, and support materials for internal teams and stakeholders. This position will present project updates to both technical and non-technical teams, ensuring clear and effective communication. Pertaining smaller project timelines, assist in testing new solutions and researching available modules to recommend the best options for meeting the university’s evolving needs.

Minimum Qualifications (required education and experience)

- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related technical field.
- 2 years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, skills, and Abilities 

- Knowledge of formal data structure design, relational database design, and file structure.
- Ability to design data structures to maximize efficiency and flexibility.
- Ability to perform database maintenance tasks, develop access routines, and maintain dictionary.
- Knowledge of data administration principles and data modeling concepts.
- Ability to identify and resolve software/hardware interface problems, data requirements, and access methods.
- Ability to establish and execute data security standards and procedures and disaster recovery plans.
- Knowledge of distributed processing and client/server technologies.
- Ability to perform database backup and recovery procedures as part of database management system utilities.
- Ability to use data resource and productivity tools applicable to the database management system.
- General knowledge of network configuration, programming, and protocols.
- Ability to provide database support in a multiple hardware platform and operating system environment.
- Ability to work and communicate with users to define and meet database needs and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

- 2 years computer programming experience
- Frontend Frameworks (React, Angular, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with Modo app platform
- Experience working in or with higher education
- Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 web accessibility content guidelines
- Experience developing RESTful API with one of the following languages: Java, C#, NodeJS, Python
- Understanding of Intermediate HTML & CSS
- Familiarity with data format JSON and XML
- Experience with Oracle database and database SQL language
- Good Understanding with project code version control tools: Github, Bitbucket
- Understanding of the following technologies: Java, Spring, Docker
- Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to present updates and manage smaller project timelines

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: up to $5,158 monthly. 

Classification Salary Range: minimum $5,158 - maximum $12,730 monthly. 

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:

Full-time/Exempt/Temporary (up to one year with the possibility of further renewal)

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Background Check
