(552030) Accounting Technician II, Accounts Payable Administrative Accounting Tech II, Salary Range: $4,037 – $5,881 (Step 1 – 20) Hiring Range: $4,037 - $4,118 (Step 1-2). Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 2 ($4,118 per month) for highly qualified candidates. Future increases, including step advancement, are subject to union negotiations.
This is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Accounts Payable Department.

Position Summary:
The Accounting Technician II will perform a range of duties in support of the Accounts Payable department. This position provides technical and administrative support to functional units involved in receiving and disbursing university and auxiliary funds, as well as recording financial transactions. Working independently, the Accounting Technician II is expected to exercise sound judgment and initiative in decision-making, consistent with established guidelines and standard practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Office Support
- Greet and assist customers—staff, faculty, students, and the public—via phone, email, and in person; research and respond to inquiries in collaboration with team members.
- Provide timely and professional customer service (within 24 hours)
- Assist in answering questions related to travel, CSUBUY P2P, Accounts Payable, Procurement, and ProCards.
- Provide timely and professional customer service (within 24 hours)
- Monitor and manage the AP Inbox; support the Travel Inbox as needed.
- Maintain Delegation of Authority documentation.
- Open and distribute campus mail and faxes.
- Update Strategic Business Services and Accounts Payable web pages.
- Create and maintain forms using Adobe Sign (or current campus-approved software).
- Order office supplies in consultation with supervisors.
- Assist with staff onboarding and offboarding, including access requests, forms, and training coordination.
- Coordinate requests for keys, phone lines, and equipment.
- Arrange meetings and reserve meeting spaces.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining office procedures.
- Develop documentation and communication tools to support departmental functions including internal desk procedures and guides for campus end users
Initiate work requests with Facilities Management Work Control as needed.
Travel Program Support
- Audit travel documents to ensure compliance with CSU and campus policies.
- Assist in delivering campus travel training with Concur when necessary to support Travel Program Administrator.
- Complete travel audits within 1–3 days.
Administration of Payment Auditing and Processing
- Audit payments against invoices to ensure accuracy before processing.
- Print checks and ensure proper handling and secure distribution.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Apply appropriate payment methods, including ACH/EFT or credit card transactions.
- Accurately log and track all issued checks.
Facilitate international wire payments through Wells Fargo in accordance with established procedures.
Administration of US Bank Procurement and Travel Cards
- Enter card applications into the US Bank system and monitor processing status.
- Communicate with the US Bank representative to resolve issues and obtain necessary reports.
- Distribute cards to end users and collect signed acknowledgment forms.
- Maintain complete and organized records of all card applications and acknowledgments.
- Open merchant category codes upon approval.
- Ensure all cardholders complete required training.
- Conduct regular training sessions and provide ongoing support to end users.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:
- Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards; compute and post numbers rapidly and accurately; maintain files and records; identify, trace, and correct errors; follow directions; interpret and apply written rules and regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Must be able to apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems; analyze and interpret accounting data; apply problem solving techniques in finding solutions to basic accounting problems; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems; work independently; and make sound decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities. Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere while establishing effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Experience:
Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.
Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing customer service in a large and complex institution.
- Experience with CSU policies. Experience with the Concur Travel & Expense
- program, PeopleSoft, or Jaggaer systems.
