Job Summary

Reporting to and under general direction of the Director of Operations, with additional lead work direction from the Dean, Associate Dean, and School Chair (Chair), the Advising Program Advisor (Advisor) provides comprehensive academic advising services to the undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the School of Business (SoB). The Advisor performs complex student services professional work characterized by independent student advisement and guidance during student’s transition into and throughout the University. The Advisor also collaborates with the SSU Advising Center to ensure the accuracy and proper application of academic policies and procedures.

Key Qualifications

This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. Knowledge of Business Administration and Economics undergraduate degree programs and requirements, acceptable transfer courses and appropriate course sequencing, and demonstrated understanding of undergraduate curriculum in a School of Business is highly preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Suite as well as ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is required. Experience with PeopleSoft, LoboConnect, and/or other advising software or CRM is highly preferred.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period. Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $5,540 to $5,761 a month. 

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
