Position Description

    • Position Summary
    • Full-time position available on or after July 1, 2026 for Credentials Office.


      This position’s responsibilities are carried out under general supervision by the Dean of the College. The incumbent performs a range of duties related to reviewing, processing, and evaluating applications for teaching credentials, certificates, and permits. The incumbent applies established policies and procedures to determine eligibility, recommend issuance, and ensure compliance with credentialing requirements. The position provides information and assistance to students, faculty, and other stakeholders regarding credentialing processes, requirements, and timelines, and supports program operations through accurate recordkeeping and coordination of activities.

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Provide forms, instructions, and general information for applying for credentials, certificates, and permits.
      • Respond to routine inquiries from students, faculty, and stakeholders.
      • Explain credential requirements, rules, and application procedures using established guidelines.
      • Provide support to program coordinators regarding program requirements and common student scenarios, including updates to credentialing criteria.
      • Assist with scheduling and coordinating workshops, orientations, and related activities. Provide program information to prospective students.
      • Advise prospective and current students across all credential programs on requirements and on all aspects of the preliminary program recommendation process.
      • Conduct exit seminars, prepare handouts, and provide information on all aspects of the preliminary credential recommendation process for students completing the credential program.
      • Act as a liaison to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) for students and faculty.
      • Review applications and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy, Process applications for credentials, certificates, and permits according to established procedures and timelines.
      • Review and evaluate transcripts and other records/documents for various types of verification (i.e. subject matter preparation programs, basic skills requirement, out of-state verification, etc.).
      • Verify records and documentation for compliance with established requirements.
      • Review documentation supporting candidates' fulfillment of requirements for all credential programs for CCTC recommendation, conducted by Credential Analyst II.
      • Identify suitable candidates for the appropriate credential to Credential Analyst II.
      • Identify eligible individuals for relevant supplementary, subject matter, or additional specific subject authorization to Credential Analyst II.
      • Recommend issuance of credentials, certificates, and permits based on established criteria.
      • Maintain records, files, and documentation related to applicants and program requirements on a regular basis.
      • Track student progress and maintain program files.
      • Assist with program operations, including announcements, scheduling, and coordination of activities.
      • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of records and information.
      • Attend selection and review meetings to support the review of students' requests through the S&R petition process. Advise committee members on relevant credential policies and procedures.
      • Provide requested data to college dean and program coordinators as needed.
      • Assist with Teacher Education's Program Coordinators, College Dean, Chair, CCTC, Institutional Research, and Pearson Evaluation Systems to create and submit the annual Title II report.
      • Assist with the preparation of the annual Expanded File of Program Completers for Chancellor’s Office.
      • Maintain historical credential program documents, student credential files, enrollment data, and other data necessary for the purposes of reporting (accreditation, biennial reports, Title II, Chancellor’s Office, etc.).
      • Assist as back-up for ERST reporting.
      • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional. development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
      • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.
      • The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this classification.
      • Other duties as assigned.
    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education: None required.

      Experience: Equivalent to one year of experience evaluating academic qualifications of applicants for public school credentials, certificates or permits.

      OR

      Equivalent to two years of experience processing academic records to determine eligibility for admissions or degrees. (One year of college level education (full-time equivalent) may be equated for up to one year of the academic record processing experience.)

      OR

      Equivalent to two years of experience performing technical, clerical or secretarial duties involving formulation, revision or interpretation of academic requirements or courses. (One year of full-time equivalent college level education may be equated for up to one year of the technical, clerical or secretarial experience.)

    • Preferred Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in education, counseling, public administration, or a related field.
      • One (1) year of experience reviewing or processing applications for credentials, certificates, permits, or similar academic or administrative programs.
      • Prior experience in a CSU or higher education setting.
      • Experience working with multiple systems or databases to enter, track, or retrieve student or program information such as Filemaker Pro and Peoplesoft.
      • Experience reviewing and processing applications for teaching credentials, certificates, or permits in accordance with established procedures and requirements.
      • Experience verifying academic records and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance with established credential requirements.
      • Ability to interpret credential rules, regulations, and procedures to provide accurate information and assistance.
      • Ability maintaining records, files, and documentation related to credential applications with attention to accuracy and detail.
      • Experience providing forms, instructions, and general information to students, faculty, and staff regarding credentialing or program requirement processes.
    • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

      • Higher levels within the series build upon and include the knowledge and skill requirements and work assignments of lower levels.
      • Knowledge of California state standards and requirements for teaching and service credentials.
      • Knowledge of educational practices in California School systems related to employment of teachers with credentials, certificates or permits.
      • Knowledge of school internship programs. A broad understanding of the credentialing process.
      • Ability to interpret for others and correctly apply the California Education Code and other such regulations pertaining to the issuance of the various credentials, certificates and permits for public school teaching and service in California.
      • Ability to organize and plan work to meet deadlines.
      • Ability to schedule participants for interviews, workshops or teaching related activities.
      • Ability to evaluate academic qualifications and determine credit to be granted toward credentials, certificates and permits.
      • Ability to prepare accurate and timely correspondence, records, and reports.
      • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

    • Salary Range
    • Anticipated starting salary will be $4,613 - $4,844 per month plus excellent paid benefits.  Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist.  (Full range: $4,613 - $6,548 per month.)
