Position Summary
The Director of Finance under general supervision to the Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for oversight of all accounting and reporting activities. The Director of Finance serves as a key member of the University Corporation senior leadership team. The Director of Finance will serve as the Corporation’s business officer, responsible for providing leadership to the overall support service functions including fiscal management, and budget development. Support service functions include, but not limited to, general accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, banking and investment relations, internal and external auditing and accounting operations and long-range forecasting and planning. As part of senior leadership, the Director of Finance will create and evaluate financial reports, presenting them to senior management, the UCorp board and campus-wide, and making recommendations as warranted. The Director of Finance will lead all day-to-day operations of the accounting department, supervising a team of seven which includes two leads handles the functional responsibility for the chart of accounts, all accounting transactions for three entities serviced by UCorp, reporting, and payroll. UCorp has assets of approximately $50 million dollars, and the Director of Finance would be responsible for overseeing all associated transactions. The Director of Finance will ensure that UCorp has the appropriate policies and procedures in place, which include continually reviewing, and strengthening internal controls related to accounting processes. The Director of Finance is responsible for making sure UCorp is in full compliance with GAAP, GASB, FASB, Federal State and California State University systems, rules, and regulations in the preparation of the Auxiliaries audited financial statements. The Director of Finance will serve as the lead contact in managing the yearly external audit. The Director of Finance will work closely with other department managers and staff with in UCorp, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how finance and accounting can support operations.
In addition, they will make sure that all accounting systems are working appropriately. Currently, PeopleSoft is the official accounting system and Financial Data Warehouse is one of the reporting tools.

- Leading and directing day-to-day activities of seven direct reports which include two leads, represent the accounting staff under the Director of Finance supervision. Leverage strengths of the current accounting team members, help clarify roles and responsibilities to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals. Provide strategic direction to the team by identifying processes and procedures that would benefit from revision; recognizing team member performance and providing ongoing training, evaluation and support; developing and planning team work flows and processes to ensure outcomes are in line with organizational goals and objectives.

- Reviewing and overseeing work related to accounting transactions effecting the balance sheet and statement of revenue and expenses and change in net assets, cash receipts, and fixed assets and reconciliations for three business units.

- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance to GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards and regulatory requirements. Produce financial statements in GASB and FASB format.
- Consistently analyze financial data presented and oversee financial reporting to ensure information presented is accurate and in a timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, annual financial deadlines; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of UCorp, AS and Foundation financial status. When warranted the Director of Finance will make recommendations to improve fiscal operations.
- Oversee and manage all audit activity for the annual audit for the three auxiliaries and provide leadership and direction to the team for audit preparation.
- Director of Finance will be responsible with engaging the board’s audit and finance committees regarding UCorp’s financial statement analysis, carrying out board directed activities and internal controls.
- Reviewing, assessing, and implementing new accounting pronouncements that apply to UCorp business.
- Create, and maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, payroll, and actual expenditures.
- Oversee the fixed assets program which involves staff recording appropriately to the G/L, tagging and bi-annual physical inventory.

- Provide support as necessary in the preparation of various tax schedules such as 1099, 1042’s, and 592 by the accounts payable team.

Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree/equivalent in accounting, finance management, economics or related field. Master’s Degree or CPA preferred.
- A minimum of seven years’ experience in an accounting position where substantial judgment, analysis, interpretation, integration of complex data and information was required. As well as experience handling full charge accounting duties.
- Demonstrated competence in the areas of finance, and accounting.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles practices for a non-profit or governmental environment (i.e. FASB and GASB).
- Experience identifying, recommending, and implementing corrective or preventive action in regard to an accounting system or procedure.
- Experience handling investments related to an endowment fund over 100 million dollars.
- Knowledge processing and supervising the processing of payroll.
- Proficient with computer applications (i.e., excel, word, access, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated competency of well-developed written and oral skills.
- Ability to build and enhance business relationships.
- Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
- Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reports, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and accounting for investments.
- Demonstrated ability to set and meet project deadlines and manage multiple tasks with continual interruptions.
