The Department of First-Year & University Programs at California State University San Marcos seeks part-time lecturers for our Fall 2026 ARC instructional team.  Academic Recovery Course instructors may be assigned to one or more 100, 200, or 300-level 1-unit courses designed to support students on academic notice.  Drawing on a combination of theoretical constructs from positive psychology and rooted in a "strengths-based" curriculum, these courses provide students opportunities to engage in a holistic self-analysis and further develop and implement an action plan for academic and life success. All action plans will involve a complete understanding of university policies related to academic standing. 

These sections are also supported by a UNIV Peer Coach, faculty mentorship of assigned UNIV Peer Coach is expected. 

Minimum qualifications:

  • A master's degree
  • Demonstrated ability in working with students to facilitate their transition from high school to college
  • Demonstrated ability to work holistically with first-year students who are on academic notice
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience teaching a first-year student college success course
  • A basic understanding of CSUSM academic policy, undergraduate general education requirements, and lower-division preparation for the major
  • An ability to direct/guide students to necessary information/resources for implementing a personal plan to overcome academic notice
  • Demonstrated counseling skills and ability to work effectively with at-promise students and students in distress
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
