University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the university's educational mission by providing quality services that complement the instructional program. The University depends upon UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds. We’re responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.

Position Summary

Temporary, Staff, Part Time, Non-Benefited position through 9/30/2026 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funds, availability of work and satisfactory job performance). 3 positions available, 1 position per location.

Salary: $40.00-$50.00 per hour.

Locations: Appliants will have the opportunity to select the location(s) they are interested in applying for in the application portal.

Work Schedule

19 hours per week. Schedule to be arranged, but typically, Monday-Friday within the hours of 9:00AM to 5:30PM. Some night and weekend work required.

Typical Activities

Under minimal supervision of the CVWBC Direcotr, or the IEWBC Director the Business Specialist will work independently to:

Program Delivery & Facilitation

  • Lead workshops, trainings, and advising sessions within area of expertise.
  • Deliver practical, implementation-focused content aligned with program goals and participant needs.
  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and continuous improvement of program curriculum and tools.
  • Provide businesses with actionable frameworks, templates, and strategies that can be immediately applied.
  • Adapt session content and advising approaches based on business stage, participant engagement, and identified challenges.

Business Growth & Scaling Support

  • Advise businesses on strategies to:
    • Increase revenue and profitability.
    • Expand customer base and market reach.
    • Strengthen internal systems and operational processes.
    • Improve financial readiness and access to capital.
  • Diagnose business performance challenges and identify growth opportunities.
  • Support business owners in prioritizing and implementing growth strategies.
  • Reinforce accountability and progress tracking in coordination with the Program Manager.

Specialized Technical Advising
Finance/Capital Access

  • Prepare businesses for lending and capital access opportunities.
  • Review financial statements and assess business readiness.
  • Guide development of funding strategies including debt financing, grants, and alternative capital.

Operations/Systems

  • Advise businesses on operational efficiency, systems improvement, workflow optimization, and process development.

Sales/Revenue Growth

  • Support sales strategy development, customer acquisition, revenue generation, and market expansion efforts.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with the Program Manager and fellow advisors to ensure aligned program delivery.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, program evaluations, and strategic planning discussions.
  • Support a positive and cohesive participant experience across all program activities.

Performance Tracking & Reporting

  • Document advising activities, participant engagement, and client progress.
  • Support tracking and reporting of key program outcomes including:
    • Revenue growth
    • Capital accessed
    • Job creation and retention
  • Maintain accurate program documentation and reporting records.

Local and regional travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Management, Entrepreneurship, or a related field preferred.
    • Equivalent professional experience in business management, financial analysis, consulting, or business ownership may substitute for formal education.
    • At least two years of business management or business ownership experience may also be considered.
  • Experience:
    • Experience working directly with or operating businesses in the $500K–$2M+ revenue range.
    • Demonstrated ability to improve business performance in areas such as revenue growth, operational efficiency, or capital readiness.
    • Experience advising, consulting, managing, or scaling businesses.
    • Experience facilitating workshops, training sessions, or advising engagements.
    • Strong understanding of real-world business implementation and execution strategies.
  • Other:
    • Knowledge

      • Financial analysis, operational systems, or sales strategy depending on area of specialization.
      • Small business operations and entrepreneurship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business ownership or executive leadership experience. 
  • Background in consulting, lending, economic development, or entrepreneurship support programs. 
  • Experience working with diverse entrepreneurs and industries. 
  • Experience in hands-on operational roles such as operator, strategist, consultant, or lender. 
  • Proven track record of helping businesses achieve measurable growth outcomes.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires regular and occasional travel throughout the Coachella Valley and Inland Empire regions to support workshops, advising sessions, meetings, and program activities.
  • The advisor must be able to travel independently to various office locations, partner sites, and client locations as needed.
  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance may be required.
  • Occasional evening availability may be necessary to support program delivery and community events.
